MARVALENE JAMES COATS

VINA, AL. – Marvalene James Coats, 86, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Al. She was born in Franklin County, Al. to Johnnie Simon James and Claudie Cleo Shewbart James. She had worked as a supervisor at Blue Bell and was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, Al. with Bro. Danny Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two children – Ronald Coats (Janet) Hodges, Al. and Debra Evans, Burnout; six grandchildren – Ronnie Joe Kennedy (Jill), Karen Evans (Gabrielle), Johnnie Coats (Marilyn), Natalie Skoumbros (Mike), Juliana Inman (Andy) and Rebecca Peden (Kirby); eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother – Houston James and two sisters – Martha Oliver and Barbara Collum (Forby).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Coats, her parents and a sister, Christine Townsend.

Pallbearers will be Jerry James, Terry James, Richard Townsend, Tommy Townsend, Kevin Townsend and Todd James.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 1-2 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

RONNIE LEDBETTER

RED BAY, AL. – Ronnie Wesley Ledbetter, 69, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Al. He was a native of Red Bay and was retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked until the closing of the Sheffield plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay, Al.

A private service will be held by his family. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. assisted the family.

Survivors include his two brothers – Michael Ledbetter (Janet) of Highland, Il. and Keith Ledbetter of Red Bay, Al. and two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerstil and Louise Ledbetter.

POLLY ELLIOTT

VINA, AL. – Mary Pauline “Polly” Elliott, 90, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at Generations of Red Bay, Red Bay, Al. She was born in Cullman, Al. to Seab Johnson and Lula Miller Johnson. She was a dog breeder for more than fifty years and a member of AKC and CKC Breeders Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Red Bay, Al.

Services will be Wednesday, April 13, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Mitch Nethery and Bro. Scott Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Joyce Gray (Danny) Florence, Al., Lynda Fowler (Tim) Vina, Al. and Steve Elliott, Kingston, Wa.; nine grandchildren – Dr. Ryan Gray (Beth), Lance Gray (Jessica), Carly Hellums (Brent), T.J. Fowler, Tony Jennings (Nicole), Codey Jennings, Destiny Elliott, Sarah Elliott and Jeremy Elliott and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Elliott, her parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Ryan Gray, Lance Gray, Brent Hellums, T.J. Fowler, Tony Jennings and Codey Jennings.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 13, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.

ROSA LEE WALDREP

MOBILE, AL – Rosa Lee Waldrep, 77, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Mobile.  She was born in Red Bay, AL to Floyd Shelton and Nina Smith Waldrep.   Rosa dedicated her life to following Jesus and serving others. Rosa graduated from Sheffield High School in1956, from  Florence State Teachers College in 1959, and earned her Masters in history in 1966 from Stetson University.  Rosa taught social studies in Largo High School, Largo, FL from 1963-1993, earning the “Distinguished Teacher” award from the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars in 1990. Rosa served as a summer counselor at Camp Sumatanga in Gallant, AL as a youth and remained committed to community service throughout her life, serving as a volunteer at Suncoast Hospice for eighteen years, as well as working with the “Clothes To Kids” charity. Rosa excelled at her passions, bridge and tennis, and travelled extensively across the U.S., Europe and to the Panama Canal. She was a dedicated member of Skycrest United Methodist Church in Clearwater, FL. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law-Nathan C. Miller.

She is survived and remembered by her three sisters-Margaret W. Miller of Mobile, AL, Christine W.Smith (Bill) of Florence, AL and Frances W. Brenner (Don) of Atlanta, GA; her brother-Floyd Shelton Waldrep Jr. (Jane Kuenz) of Cumberland, Maine; eight nieces and nephews- Robert F. Smith (Michael W. Hasty), William Smith (Laura), Franceska Lynne (Warren Gang),  Jeremy Miller (Julia), Allen Lee Smith (Heather),  Jennifer Miller, Chloe Waldrep and Lily Waldrep; one grand-nephew-Connor Allen Smith; two grand-nieces - Piper Joy Smith and Angel Joy Smith and her special friend-Jo Ann Ramsey.

Rosa will be buried in Red Bay City Cemetery.

WILLA JEAN CODY

RED BAY, AL. – Willa Jean Cody, 76, died Sunday, April 3, 2016 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Al. She was born in Marion County, Al. to Nermon Kelly and Lois Terrell Kelly. She worked for AT&T as a telephone operator for seven years and was a member of Bethel Church of God, Red Bay, Al.

Services will be Thursday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Church of God with Bro. Tony Bartkoski and Kelly Bartkoski officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two children – Cynthia Cody and Michael Cody, both of Red Bay, Al.; five grandchildren – Kelly Bartkoski, Jessica Kent, Alyssa Chambers, Brooklyn Chambers and Randy Cody; one great-grandchild; two sisters – Christine Reach, Red Bay, Al. and Virginia Wolfe, Birmingham, Al. and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwane C. Cody, a son, Carson Cody, her parents and three brothers, Ray Kelly, Hugh Kelly and Ricky Kelly.

Pallbearers will be Cody McGraw, Matthew McGraw, Joseph Reach, Barry Reach, Tyler Reach, Russell Reach, Greg Kent and Ricky Holland.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 1-2 p.m. at Bethel Church of God.

CHARLES KENNETH OZBIRN

VINA, AL. – Charles Kenneth Ozbirn, 74, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Generations of Red Bay. He was born in Vina, Al. to Robert Dale Ozbirn and Verda Mae Swindle Ozbirn. He worked as a welder and was a member of Atwood Baptist Church.

Services will be Saturday, April 2, at 12 noon at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Ray Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Berry Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons – Craig Ozbirn (Patricia) Vina, Al. and David Ozbirn (Shelley) Belmont, Ms.; three grandchildren – Robert Ozbirn (Jessica), Lisa Ozbirn and Tony Ozbirn and one great-granddaughter – Aubrey Ozbirn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Faye Ozbirn, a daughter, Karen Ozbirn, his parents and two brothers, Wayne Ozbirn and Steve Ozbirn.

Pallbearers will be Michael Moomaw, Robert Ozbirn, L.V. Russell and Tony Ozbirn.

Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.

BUDDY SCOTT

RED BAY, AL. – Justin A. “Buddy” Scott, 85, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Franklin County, Al. and had worked as a truck driver for Sunshine Mills. He was a member of Red Bay Church of God.

Services will be Tuesday, March 22, at 4 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Steve Ledbetter and Bro. Billy Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Cheryl Scott Holley (Gilbert) Moulton, Al. and Juston Scott, Jr. and Lynn Scott (Krista), all of Red Bay, Al.; seven grandchildren – Scotty Holley, Bridget Montgomery, Leigh Ann Craig, Britta Orrick, Brook Scott, Derek Scott and Christopher Scott; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother – Clifton Scott (Deborah) Vina, Al. and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Scott, his parents, Hardy and Leona Scott, a brother, Clinton Scott, a twin sister, Justine Davis and a great-grandson, Drake James Scott.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Holley, Derek Scott, Christopher Scott, Jeremy Orrick, Lawson Craig and Joseph Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryson Hacker, Paxton Montgomery, Tucker Montgomery, Lawson Craig and Austin Orrick.

MAMIE LOU BAGGETT

HODGES, AL – Mamie Lou Baggett, 91, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at her residence.  She was born in Franklin County, AL to Robert and Mary Williams Davis.  She was a homemaker and member of Hodges Convention Baptist Church.

Services will be Wednesday, March 23, 2 p.m. at Hodges Convention Baptist Church with Bro. Thomas Thornton officiating.  Burial will be in Holly Springs Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter-Pam Clement of Muscle Shoals, AL; four sons-Charles Baggett (Angela) of Valdosta, GA, Carl Baggett (Diane) of Red Bay, AL, Kenneth Baggett (Juanita) of Moulton, Al and David Baggett (Donna) of Hodges, AL; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters-Evie Jane Brooks and Faye McCarley both of Moulton, AL.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Grady Baggett; son-Hilton Baggett; daughter-Marie Brown; son-in-law-Terry Clement; sister-Amy Baggett; three brothers-Clinton Davis, Lester Davis and Shelby Davis and step-brother-James Ed Davis.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Baggett, Kevin Baggett, Brett Crow, Danny Brooks, Truman Scott and Colton Hill.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 22, 6-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL and she will lie-in-state Wednesday at the church from 12-2 p.m.

BILLY D. THORN

RUSSELLVILLE, AL. – Billy D. Thorn, 88, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Carrington House, Iuka, Ms. He was born in Franklin County, Al. to Hosea W. Thorn and Josie McMurray Thorn. He had worked in maintenance at Reynolds Metals and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services will be Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Ray Kirk and Bro. Steve Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Dempsey Cemetery, Russellville, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Wayne Thorn (Deb) Red Bay, Al.; one daughter – Rhonda Thorn, Red Bay, Al. and one grandson – Josh Thorn, Russellville, Al.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Thorn and two brothers, Thurston Thorn and Clark Thorn.

Pallbearers will be Danny Wooten, Michael Moomaw, Roger Thorn, Gary Thorn, Harold Watson and L.V. Russell.

ROY E. HAMM

RED BAY, AL. – Roy E. Hamm, 66, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the North Ms. Medical Center, Tupelo, Ms. He was born in Alabama to Alvis Hamm and Minnie Mitchell Hamm. He worked at Sunshine Homes for 37 years and was a Baptist.

Services will be Friday, March 18, at 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. J.C. Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are four children – Doug Hamm (Lynn) Hattiesburg, Ms., Tammy Petty (Billy Jefferson) and Brian Hamm, all of Red Bay, Al. and Donald Hamm (Angie) Saltillo, Ms.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother – Danny Hamm (Nancy) Red Bay, Al. and one sister – Helen Michael, Red Bay, Al.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Louise Hamm, one granddaughter, Janet Hamm and one sister, Ellen Hisaw.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Burks, Rennin Petree, Marshall Simmons, Cody Poores, Eric Leathers and Billy Jefferson. Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.

JEWELL DEAN PARRISH

SOUTHAVEN, MS. – Jewell Dean Parrish, 84, died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at DeSoto Healthcare Center, Southaven, Ms. She was born in Russellville, Al. to John Zills and Ollie Stout Zills. She was a hairdresser for twenty years, a Baptist and member of Eastern Star.

Services will be Saturday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Ray Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons – Gary Parrish, Sr., Southaven, Ms. and Ray Oliver, Saltillo, Ms.; ten grandchildren – Gary Parrish, Jr., Tony Parrish, Matt Parrish, Drew Parrish, Jeremy Parrish, Blake Parrish, Cindy Holcomb, Wendy Howell, Jeremy Oliver and Austin Jones and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.T. Parrish and a son, Terry Parrish.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

NANCY GARRISON

GOLDEN, MS – Nancy Lee Garrison, 64, died Saturday, March 5, 2016 at her residence.  She was born in Booneville, MS to Blake and Mary Gasaway Smith.  She was a seamstress and a member of Red Bay Holy Church of Christ.

Services will be Tuesday, March 8, 3:30 p.m. at Red Bay Holy Church of Christ with Bro. Rex Riddle officiating.  Burial will be in Dennis Memory Gardens, Dennis, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include three children-Cressoline Cummings (Greg) of Vina, Melinda Garrison of Horn Lake, MS and Carl Garrison of Golden; two grandchildren-Victoria Adams and William Cole Garrison; one great-grandson-Clayton Adams; her mother-Mary Magdeline Smith of Iuka; three sisters-Joan Dill, Linda Monroe (David) and Mary Ann Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Carlton Garrison and her father.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Adams, Cole Garrison, Jeremy Dill, Christopher Monroe, Greg Dill and Davey Dill.

EUGENE TOWNSEND

VINA, AL. – Eugene “Gene” Townsend, 82, departed this life on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, Ms. He was born March 27, 1933 to William Jefferson “Willie” and Flora Humphres Townsend in the Burnout Community, Vina, Al., where he has lived the past fifty-five years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Sunday, February 28, at 4 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, Al. with Bro. Tim Harris officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years – Geneva Wilson Townsend, Burnout Community, Vina, Al.; one son – Alan Townsend and his wife, Carole Spearman Townsend, Vernon, Al.; two grandsons – William Burke "Will" Townsend and Alan Collier Townsend, both of Vernon, Al.; a brother – Raymond Townsend (Margie) Brook Park, Ohio; three sisters – Nell Hall, Russellville, Al., Evangeline Hughes, Phil Campbell, Al. and Margaret Fikes, Fulton, Ms. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a ten-month old twin sister, Eutrene Townsend, a brother, Everett Townsend and a sister, Opal Klatt.

Pallbearers will be Richard Townsend, Tommy Townsend, Gary Williams, Terry Humphres, Donald Gober and Danny Shewbart.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their support during Eugene’s sickness, death and their loss. J.C. GOBER

RED BAY, AL. – J.C. Gober, 90, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at his daughter’s residence in Muscle Shoals, Al. He was born in Hackleburg, Al. to Charles Edward Gober and Viola Hudson Gober. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and had worked for the City of Red Bay. He was a member and deacon of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Saturday, February 27, at 2 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church, Vina, Al. with Bro. Fred Woodall officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Betty Bolton, Muscle Shoals, Al., Donald Gober (Dorothy) Red Bay, Al. and Laura Cabell (John) San Antonio, Tx.; six grandchildren – Angela Scott (Todd), Daryl Gober, Dorinda Edwards (Kenneth), Derek Gober (Bethany), Elizabeth Stoll and John Cabell; seven great-grandchildren – Ivie Scott, Makenzie Edwards, Miles Edwards, Bailey Ann Gober, Henley Stoll, Walker Stoll and Davis Gober; two sisters – Charlene Oliver and Shirley Collum and one brother – Jerry Gober.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tiny Gober, his parents, four brothers, Clither, Etheridge, Hector and Edward Gober and one sister, Ruby Lee Gober.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Gober, Derek Gober, John Cabell, Todd Scott, Kenneth Edwards and Nash Hardin.

Visitation will be Friday, February 26, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. and he will lie in state Saturday, February 27, 12-2 p.m. at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

The family extends special thanks to Hospice of the Shoals and especially Cynthia, Amanda and Dr. Webb.

CHRISTOPHER HARRISON

RUSSELLVILLE, AL. – Christopher Lynn Harrison, 30, died Saturday, February 20, 2016. He was born in Iuka, Ms. and worked as a machine operator.

There will be no services. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. assisted the family.

Survivors are two sisters – Jennifer Harrison and Laura Kennemer; his mother – Carol Kennemer (Mike); grandmothers – Rumell Franks and Ruby Kennemer; grandfather – Bobby Harrison and a host of cousins.

SHIRLEY SUE BARKER HARDIN

VINA, AL. – Shirley Sue Barker Hardin, 73, died Monday, February 22, 2016 at Helen Keller Hospital, Sheffield, Al. She was born in Hackleburg, Al. and worked at Blue Bell as a seamstress and at Belmont Homes. She was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be Wednesday, February 24, at 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Arthur Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 58 years – Andy Hardin, Vina, Al.; three children – Anthony Hardin (Lynn) and Sherry Harris (Steve) all of Belmont, Ms. and Mark Hardin (Beatrice) Vina, Al.; nine grandchildren – Jeremy Hardin (LeAnn), Jennifer Davenport (Darrel), Chondra Russell (Lee), Monica McDonald (Eric), Blake Hardin, Brady Hardin, P.J. Cleveland (Nikki), Gentry Cleveland (Stephanie) and Natasha Harris; thirteen great-grandchildren and one sister – Wilma Humphres, Red Bay, Al.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Troy Barker and Lizzie Idell Rollins Barker, an infant brother and two brothers, James Barker and Robert Barker.

Pallbearers will be grandsons – Jeremy Hardin, Blake Hardin, Brady Hardin, P.J. Cleveland, Eric McDonald, Gentry Cleveland and Lee Russell.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 23, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.

DANIEL J. LYNCH

HODGES, AL. – Daniel J. Lynch, 67, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1948 in Atlantic City, N.J. and was the second oldest of twelve children.  Straight out of high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He retired early from the service in 1985 due to open heart surgery as Sgt. First Class. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to many people.

There will be no funeral services at this time. There will be a small private family gathering one year from his death for immediate family members only as adheres to his wishes. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. assisted the family.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Lynch; four children – Doreen Patterson, Fairhope, Al., Daniel Lynch, Eldridge, Al., Jenean Zayas, Pensacola, Fl. and Angela Alack, Hodges, Al.; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

JUDY ANN STACY

HAMILTON, AL. – Judy Ann Stacy, 62, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at North Ms. Medical Center, Hamilton, Al. She was born in Itawamba County, Ms. to Glen Stacy and Bernice Collum Stacy. She was a cashier and attended the Baptist church.

Services will be Saturday, February 20, at 11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. J.C. Blackburn officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one sister – Sandra Stacy, Hamilton, Al. and one brother – Randy Stacy (Sheila) Golden, Ms.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Glendell Stacy.

Pallbearers will be James Stacy, Joe Stacy, Ellis Stacy, Joe Roberts, Thomas Bridges and Josh Stacy.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 20, 10-11 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.

VINA, AL. – P.V. “Pug” Orrick, 82, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Marion County, Al. and was retired from American Motors. He was a member of Vina First Baptist Church and a member of United Autoworkers. He enjoyed laughing, spending time with friends and babysitting his great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, February 18, at 10 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Steve Ledbetter and Bro. Ray Kirk officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms.

Survivors are one sister – Nadine Hopkins, Red Bay, Al.; six grandchildren – Dawn Rogers (Shaun), Brad Childers, Kirk Childers, Katy McGee, Amber Bohannon (Nathan) and Kayla Gunnels (Brian); great-grandchildren – Kenzlee Bohannon, Gadzden Bohannon, Paxton Gunnels, Pyper Gunnels, Kailee Rogers, Konnor Rogers and several other great-grandchildren; three step-children and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Childers Orrick, his parents, Albb Orrick and Maudie Emerson Orrick, a brother, P.A. Orrick, a step-son and a grandson.

RED BAY, AL. – Brenda Sue Thorn, 68, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born in Franklin County, Al. and was a homemaker. She was a member of Red Bay Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joyce Berlin Burks, his parents, Ransom William Burks and Corene Mitchell Burks and a brother, Ray Burks.

VINA, AL. – Walter L. Shewbart, Jr., 89, died Monday, February 15, 2016 at ECM Hospital, Florence, Al.  He was born in Franklin County, Al. to Walter L. Shewbart, Sr. and Lottie Thorn Shewbart. He was retired as a construction worker with TVA and was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.

WYTHEVILLE, VA. – Lillian Miller Holland, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at her daughter’s home in Wytheville, Va. She was a native of Red Bay, Al. and Fulton, Ms. She was born in Mississippi to the late Chester Miller and the late Wilice Lentz Miller. She was better known as the “Quilt Lady” for all of the handmade quilts she made. She was a member of Church of God.

Services will be Saturday, January 30, at 2 p.m. at Senter Funeral Home, Fulton, Ms. with Marie Poindexter and Edwin Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

GOLDEN, MS – Ronald James Cooper, 84, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at his residence.  He was born in Gary, Indiana to Sidney and Florence Cooper.  He was a custodian for an elementary school and was a veteran of the US Air Force.  He attended Christ the King Catholic church in Fulton. He loved working on genealogy and collecting antiques and cookbooks.

There will be no public service.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL assisted the family.

Survivors include three brothers-Kenneth Cooper (Lois), Leonard Cooper (Jan), Phyllis Evans (Danny) and Robert Cooper (Ginny); host of nieces and nephews; special friend-Waylon Provins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-Sidney Cooper Jr. and one sister-Jeanette Sibbrell.

GOLDEN, MS – Judith Henson, 74, died Friday, January 15, 2016 at her caregivers residence in Vina, AL.  She was born in Tremont to William Gatson and Grace Robinson.  She was a mail carrier. She was a member of Golden Chapel United Methodist Church and an active member of the Red Hat Society.

IUKA, MS. – Wilma Bostick Henson, 85, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Mississippi to Lawton Bostick and Selma Northington Bostick. She was a dental hygienist for twenty years and worked for Dean of Baylor Dental School in Texas, Team Dental Hygenist for Auburn University football team and in Corinth for ten years. She was a member of Jubilee Baptist Church, Daphne, Al. and enjoyed sewing, cooking and interior decorating.

Services will be Saturday, January 16, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Nelson Hight and Bro. Roger Wood officiating.  Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED BAY, AL – Neal W. Thompson, 52, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at his residence.  He was born June 11, 1963 in Rockford, Ill. To Donald and Bonnie Thompson who preceded him in death.  He was a former employee at Tiffin Motor Homes.

GOLDEN, MS. – Martha M. Moody, 82, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at her daughter’s residence. She was born in Itawamba County, Ms. to Thomas Cooley Collier and Eula Mae Culpepper Collier. She was a homemaker and faithfully attended Oak Grove Church of God.

Services will be Monday, January 4, at 1 p.m. at Cornerstone Church of God, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Rick Bradley and Bro. Todd Kemp officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED BAY, AL. – Edward L. Harrison, 86, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Golden, Ms. to Wallace Harrison and Ressie Thrasher Harrison. He was a farm equipment mechanic and worked for John Deere for thirty years. He was a member of Palestine Church of God.

RED BAY, AL. – Vera M. Brazil, 85, went to be with her Lord Monday, December 28, 2015 at The Meadows, Fulton, Ms. She was born in New Site, Ms. to Odus McCreary and Flora Bell Cleveland McCreary. She was a seamstress for twenty years, a homemaker and a member of Red Bay Church of Christ. She loved her family, church family and her friends and caretakers at The Meadows.

DENNIS, MS. – Randall Lewey, 65, died Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, Ms. He was born in Franklin County, Al. to Samuel Lewey and Katherine Aldridge Lewey. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a logger.

GOLDEN, MS. – James Cecil Pearson, 91, died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at The Meadows, Fulton, Ms. He was born in Itawamba County, Ms. to Benjamin Clyde Pearson and Mary Lillard Stockton Pearson and was a factory worker. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of God of Prophecy.

He was of the Baptist faith and served in the Mississippi National Guard.

RED BAY, AL. – Hazel Russell Hall, 93, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Generations of Red Bay. She was born in Tishomingo County, Ms. and captured the heart and spirit of a southern woman. A child of depression, she was strong, resilient and creative. She was widely known for her cooking skills, but dinner time with her was so much more. No one remained a stranger in her presence. Her laughter, easy words and stories fed spirits just as her wonderful meals fed the body. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God.

GOLDEN, MS. – Frances Marion Wood Newell, 77, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Courtyard Living Center in Fulton, Ms. She was born November 24, 1937 to Curtis and Wilma Rogers Wood. She lived her whole life in Itawamba County and Franklin County, Al. and worked 47 years as a factory worker. She attended Old Bethel Methodist Church, Golden, Ms.

She is survived by her niece – Margaret Stewart (Neill) of Tupelo, Ms.; her nephew – Donald Petty (Deb) of Fulton, Ms. and sister-in-law – Johnnie Wood of Red Bay, Al. She is also survived by her great-nieces – Jennifer Mize (JD) and Shea Scarbrough (Daniel); her great-nephew – Brandon Petty (Mandi); three great-great-nephews and one great-great-niece.

GOLDEN, MS. – Bertha Arlene Fradenburg, 83, died Sunday, November 1, 2015 at her residence. She was born June 2, 1932 in Alabama to Dewey Humphres and Litia Holland Humphres.

RED BAY, AL. – James Grady Jordan, 88, died Monday, October 26, 2015 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. He was born in Red Bay, Al. to Dr. Grady Jordan and Arva Lee Epps Jordan. He was employed by Southern Bell Telephone, Boeing Rocket  Program and was retired from Ms. State Highway Department. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Red Bay, Al. and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He was lovingly called Papa Grady.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 28, at 11 a.m. at Red Bay City Cemetery with Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED BAY, AL. – Lucille S. Cagle, 94, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born in Athens, Al. to Ezra Coats and Ruthie Guinn Coats. She was retired from Blue Bell where she was an inspector. She was one of the founding members of Northside Baptist Church.

He was retired from Boeing in Pennsylvania where he was a line mechanic. He was a member of Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church.

RED BAY, AL- Roy Eugene Umfress, 57, passed on to his eternal Home on October 2, 2015. He was born on September 19, 1958 in Baton Rouge, LA to Bobby and Evelyn Umfress, Sr. He was a member and former deacon of Single Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Vina, participant of Emmaus Walk #337, and a veteran of the United States Air Force serving as a drill sergeant at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He was a 1976 graduate of Vina High School.

Services will be Monday, October 5, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay with Bro. Andy Barnett officiating.  Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 6, 10 a.m. at Single Springs Cemetery, Vina, AL.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Sandra of Red Bay, the mother of his children, Edna Halili of Hamilton, his children Stephanie (Heath) McCarley of Phil Campbell, Bobby (Constance) Umfress II of Maylene, AL and Ryan (Shellie) Umfress of Hamilton, four beloved grandchildren, Jackson Umfress, Kalaya Umfress, Ezekiel Umfress, and Ezra Umfress, and a brother Kenneth Umfress of Red Bay as well as a multitude of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Earl and Rosetta Umfress and Columbus and Effie Abbott.

HODGES, AL. – Thomas Lee Rogers, Sr., 67, died Friday, September 18, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Franklin County, Al. to K.T. and Zella Mitchell Rogers. He was a carpenter for forty years.  He taught Building Construction at Vo-Tech at Belgreen High School for seventeen years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and a member of the American Legion.  He was a member of Atwood Baptist Church.

RED BAY, AL. – Geraldine Miller Caldwell, 65, died Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Marion County, Al. to John L. and Lillie Emerson Miller. She had worked as a dispatcher for the Red Bay Police Department and was a member of Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church.

HODGES, AL. – Cordelia Jane Worthey Guyton, 74, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Atwood, AL to Coy and Virgie Worthey.  She was a lifetime resident of Hodges and married Truman Hansel Guyton on May 16, 1958.  During her lifetime she visited many different countries, including West Germany, Holland, France and old Mexico.  She also lived in Alaska when it was a territory of the U.S.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking and sewing.

Services will be Tuesday, September 8, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Walter Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Pilot Hill Cemetery, Vina, AL.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband-Truman Hansel Guyton of Hodges; a daughter-Janet Jaco (Herman) of Hodges; one sister-Wilby Jean Smith of Belmont and three half-siblings; her grandchildren-Jeniece Winstead of Phil Campbell, Bethany Stewart of Moulton, James White of Hodges, Christina Howard of Anderson, AL, James Guyton II of Zip City, AL; her great-grandson and adopted son Wesley Guyton of Hodges; eleven other great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

THOMPSONS STATION, TN. – R. Steven Griffus, 59, was born in Waukegan, Il. and peacefully passed from this life on August 24, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tn. He was surrounded by family, friends and clergy. He was currently employed at CHS, Brentwood, Tn. and held a B.S. from Carthage College and an MBA from Lake Forest College. He attended Thompsons Station Church and was active in church Bible Studies and served as a teacher, which he loved.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay, Al. and was a charter member of the Red Bay Garden Club. She retired as the Executive Director of Red Bay Housing Authority after 40 years.

RED BAY, AL – Gilbert W. “G.W.” “Axel” Hudson, 57, died Friday, July 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Georgia and was a truck driver. He was a veteran of the US Marines.

Survivors are his wife-Deborah “Deb” Hudson of Red Bay; two sons-Greg Hudson (Trish) of Belmont and Erik Hudson (Angel) of Red Bay; step-daughter-Bridget Pettey of Golden; step-son-Jason Dees of Golden; two brothers-Bobby Hudson of Inwood, IA and Allen Hudson-Munice, IN; one grandson-Grayson Hudson; step-grandchildren-Tiffany and Skylar Pettey, Candi Dees, Lidia Dees, Tristan Pounders and Sebastian Dees.

He was preceded in death by his parents-Gilbert Hudson, Jr. and Marion Hudson, a sister-Brenda Hudson and a step-son-Richard Dees.

GOLDEN, MS – Steve Allen Scott, 56, died June 29, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Red Bay, AL to Z.L. and Mildred Scott. He was a mechanic for most of his life and was owner and operator of Steve Scott Automotive. He liked to fish, cook at his shop, go drag racing and spend time with his friends. He attended Altar Baptist Church. He always looked forward to Vacation Bible School, so he could help with all the little kids and make sure they had plenty to eat and drink. He loved everyone and would give you the last thing he had if you needed it. He will be missed by everyone.

Services will be Wednesday, July 1, at 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay with Bro. J.C. Blackburn, Bro. Robert Wood and Jeff Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-Pat Blackburn; brother-in-law-Dale Lawler and great nephew-Weston Fennel.

VINA, AL – Harriet L. Myers, 83, died Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka.  She was born in Arkansas to Henry and Vena Renfrow.  She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents and her husband-George E. Myers.

She is survived by two sons-George G. Myers of Florence, AL and Mark R. Myers (Mechelle) of Maryland; three grandchildren-Christina Myers, Nichalous Myers and Zachary Myers; and one sister Margaret Reeves of Florence, AL.

RED BAY, AL. – Sherrill J. “Sherry” Overton Tackett, 66, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Russellville Hospital. She was born in Russellville, Al. and was an employee of Community Spirit Bank for over 25 years. She was a member of Vina First Baptist Church, Vina, Al.

Survivors are one son – Ryan Tackett (Desirae) Fulton, Ms.; one grandson – Peyton Tackett, Fulton, Ms.; one brother – Kent Overton (Laura) of Michigan; sister-in-law – Gerelene Overton and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardie Overton and Elois Stidham Overton and a brother, Jerry Overton.

RED BAY, AL. – Junior G. Jackson, 65, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at UAB, Birmingham, Al. He was born in Alabama and was a factory worker.

Survivors are his wife of 46 years – Judy Jackson, Red Bay, Al.; three children – Jennifer Jeanette Ables and Joanna Jo Childers (Lance) all of Red Bay, Al. and Jana Jae Heatherly (Billy) of Florida; four grandchildren – Tisha Leonia Ables, Damian Boyd Heatherly, Ryan Anthony Heatherly and Christabella  Alexandria Childers; his mother – Clarice Jackson; three brothers – James Jackson, Donnie Jackson and Darrell Jackson and one sister – Sharon Wildmon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Veloise Jackson.

GRACIE WELCH BARKSDALE

RED BAY, AL. – Gracie Welch Barksdale, 54, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the North Ms. Medical Center. She was born in Russellville, Al. She was raised in Belgreen where she attended and graduated from Belgreen High School.

Survivors are her husband – Chris Barksdale, Red Bay, Al.; one son – Keith Seal (Christina) San Antonio, Tx.; step-children – Jordan Barksdale (Paige) of North Carolina and Kayla Fowler (Brandon), Belmont, Ms.; grandchildren – Alexander Seal, Nicholas Seal, Elizabeth Seal, Jacob Seal and Tucker Barksdale; brothers and sisters – Margaret Summeral (Ed), David Welch, Dorothy Bachelor (Ricky), Maylene McDowell (Mike), Kathy Blanton (Kenneth) and Urcil Welch (Teresa); sister-in-law – Linda Welch and a host of nieces and nephews.

VINA, AL. – Clois Archie Martin, 95, died Monday, June 8, 2015 at Generations of Red Bay. He was born in Alabama and worked in maintenance at a factory in Illinois. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

RED BAY, AL – Phillip Dale Swindle, 57, died Sunday June 7, 2015 at ECM Hospital.  He was born in Red Bay, AL to Buford and Evelyn Swindle.  He was a retired police officer.

RED BAY, AL – Herman Hutcheson, 85, died Saturday June 6, 2015 at Huntsville Hospital.  He was born in Alabama to Sebe and Icie Belle Hutcheson.  He was a truck driver and member of Cornerstone Church of God.

VINA, AL. – Robby Eugene Davidson, 45, died Friday, May 22, 2015 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.  He was born in Russellville, AL and was a member of Hodges Church of Christ.  He was the owner and operator of Davidson Grocery in Vina.

VINA, AL – Gladys Vula Humphres, 98, died Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born in Franklin County, AL to Charlie and Phoebe Ann Porter.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Humphres (Dorothy) of Red Bay; nine grandchildren-Randy Edwards and Rhonda Hester both of Vina, Regina Archie of Nettleton, Ronnie Edwards of Keller, TX, Teresa Lesley of Russellville, Vickie DeHeart of Rockport, TX, Phillip Humphres of Spruce Pine, Kevin Humphres of Salem, AL and Suzanne Summeral of Spring Hill, TN; 18 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

RED BAY, AL. – Euzell Ewing, 69, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Itawamba County, Ms. and was retired from the Street Department for the city of Red Bay.

RED BAY, AL – Marcell Robert Petree, 84, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at his residence.  He was born in Franklin County, AL to Clarence and Rena Petree.  He retired from Champion International Paper and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

RED BAY, AL – Edith Mae Gober Carroll, 64, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Helen Keller Hospital.  She was born in Franklin County to James Dalton and Lena Gober.  She was a member of Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son-Nicholas Dalton Carroll (Fiancé-Katie Gonzales) of Red Bay; one sister-Christine Martin (David) of Red Bay; seven special nieces and nephews-Cody Martin, Amanda Gober, Ethan Martin, Micah Martin, Christian Martin, Bruce Gober and Lori Gober; and a sister-in-law-Becky Gober.
She was preceded in death by her husband-Donald Lee Carroll; her parents; three brothers-Wilburn Gober, Mac Gober and Jack Gober; and a nephew-Chris Martin.

CLARENCE H. BROWN, JR.

VINA, AL - Clarence Henry Brown, Jr. 81, Vina, Alabama, died April 15, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center.  Clarence was born June 6, 1933, to Clarence and Celeste Moore Brown in Meridian, Mississippi.  He graduated from Enterprise High School and joined the United States Navy in 1951. He sailed around the world aboard the aircraft carriers the USS Tarawa and the USS Leyte Gulf and served during the Korean Conflict.  After four years in the Navy he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and married Gerlda Marie Newton on July 2, 1960, in Mobile, Alabama.  In 1963 Clarence began his career with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, Alabama.  In a career that spanned 30 years with NASA, he served as Director of Procurement at John Glenn Space Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, as well as Assistant Deputy Director of Procurement in Washington, D C.  He worked on the Apollo program and the Space Shuttle program.  After retirement he initiated a second career with Rust International Yellow Creek Project.  Clarence enjoyed traveling, visiting with family, and spending time with his grandchildren and siblings.  He loved to tell a story and he left an impression with everyone he met.
Services will be Saturday April 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Enterprise Baptist Church, Enterprise, MS.  Burial with military honors will be in Enterprise Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gerlda and two daughters, Rebecca (William) Sartor of Tupelo and Katherine (Michael) Lanford of Ridgeland.  He leaves three grandchildren, Caroline and Elizabeth Lanford, and Henry Sartor; two brothers, Douglas Brown (Janet) and Joe Brown (Rande); and one sister Clarice Williams, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-Sidney Brown.

DR. BILLY H. HENSON

DAPHNE, AL.- Dr. Billy H. Henson, died Saturday, April 11, 2015. He was born in Red Bay, Al. He was former president of the Veterinary School at Auburn University, loved Auburn football and will always be a War Eagle. Before leaving Auburn he was offered the office of Dean but chose to stay with his career goal as a veterinarian, which he loved and practiced for forty-seven years. He practiced in Corinth, Ms., Memphis, Tn., Birmingham, Al. and finally the Alabama Gulf Coast in Foley and Loxley. He was a member of Jubilee Baptist Church, Daphne, Al. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War.

Services will be Tuesday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Nelson Hight officiating. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED  BAY, AL. – Junior A. Stevens, 87, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Prentiss County, Ms. and grew up on a farm, raising cotton. Junior was fourth of seven children. After the death of his first wife, Maurine Young Stevens, he was married to Icie Bates McCollum Stevens. When he first met Icie’s family, he told them he wasn’t Mr. Stevens, just plain ole junior. He owned and operated a country store about five miles northeast of Booneville, Ms. in the Tuscumbia community for many years.

Services will be Wednesday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Roger Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Site Cemetery, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

RED BAY, AL – Martha Bostick Mason, 91, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her daughter’s residence in Ellicott City, Maryland.  She was born in Red Bay to Vester and Virgie Tiffin Bostick and was a librarian for 24 years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Red Bay.

Survivors are two daughters – Judy Wooten (Danny) and Janice Frederick, all of Vina, Al.; five grandchildren – Brandi Miller, Brent Wooten, Brooke Robbins, Chasity George and Tucker Frederick; six great-grandchildren – Andy George, Katlynn George, Britton Wooten, Jackson Miller, Cash Miller and Rylie Robbins and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brice Bonds Hester Sr. and Minnie Nelson Hester, a daughter, Pam Hardin, a granddaughter, Michelle Hardin and five sisters and one brother.

Pallbearers will be Brent Wooten, Tucker Frederick, John Miller, Luke Robbins, Jared George and Andy George. Honorary pallbearers will be Jackson Miller and Britton Wooten.

VICKI HAZEL WOODS

TUSCUMBIA, AL. – Vicki Hazel Woods, 81, died Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Shoals Hospital. She was born in Mississippi and had worked as a hotel secretary. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of North Highland Baptist Church, Littleville, Al.

Services will be Tuesday, February 24, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Bradley Long officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband – Otis “Woody” Woods, Tuscumbia, Al.; two brothers – Raymond Long, Mobile, Al. and Travis Long (Barb) Sheffield, Al.; one sister – Diane Marmorstein (Barry) Seattle, Wa.; four children – Ann Marston (Frank), Brenda Smith (Ottie) and Vickie McGee (Phil) all of Killen, Al. and Ross Shadix, Louisville, Ky.; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren;  three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sister-in-law – Bill Woods, George Woods and Nita Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvil and Rosetta Burton Long, a brother, John Long Sr., husband, Samuel Shadix, and a daughter, Brenda Doyle.

Pallbearers will be George Woods, John Corum, Louis Knerr, Brandon Martin, John Long Jr. and Jeffrey Long.

W. B. DEES

RED BAY, AL – W.B. Dees, 88, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Red Bay Hospital.  He was born in Franklin County, AL to Will and Leaffer Dees.  He was a heavy equipment operator and a farmer.  He was a member of New Union Missionary Baptist Church since 1950.

Services will be Sunday, February 22, 1 p.m. at New Union Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Greg Philamlee and Gerald Collum officiating.  Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Magdeline Dees of Red Bay; three children-Jerry Dees (Janie) of Belmont, Barbara Richey and Ricky Dees (Mae) all of Red Bay; four grandchildren-Bradley Waddle, Jennifer Raper, Heath Dees and Audrey Green; eight step grandchildren-Pam Bauris, Jim Gannon, Mike Gannon, Angie Stafford, Katelyn Norman, Danny Scott, Devin Scott and Matthew Scott; five great grandchildren-Landon Blunt, Bryson Dees, Brody Raper, Brilei Dees and Meli Green; one sister-Evelyn Sandlin of Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-U.V. Rayburn.

RED BAY, AL. – David E. Ivy, 65, died Monday, February 16, 2015 at North Ms. Medical Center Hospice Unit, Tupelo, Ms. He was born in Itawamba County, Ms. and was an athletic recruiter. He was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church, Golden, Ms.

Services will be Wednesday, February 18, at 2 p.m. at Old Bethel United Methodist Church, Golden, Ms. with Bro. Bobby Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 47 years – Kathy Ivy, Red Bay, Al.; one son – Brad Ivy, Red Bay, Al.; daughter-in-law – Sonya Ivy, Red Bay, Al.; grandchild – Nicole Earnest; great-grandchild – Caseyn Rayburn; father & mother-in-law – J.W. and Eupal Thorne; brother-in-law – Jerry Thorne (Beverly) one nephew – Heath Thorne; one niece – Amber Hill; four great-nephews; aunts & uncles – Maynard Ivy (Pat), Harold Ivy (Carolyn), Shelby Ivy (Wilda) and Mary Ann Caveness and a host of cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tulon and Lena Mae Ivy.

PAUL JAMES DEWEY

CHEROKEE, AL. – Paul James “Jamie” Dewey, 74, died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Massene, NY and worked as a locksmith.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy for ten years and served in the Army Reserve for twelve years.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, February 28, at 2 p.m. at Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home assisted the family.

Survivors are his wife – Nancy Dewey, Cherokee, Al.; three children – Valerie Irish, Norwood, NY, Bruce Dewey, Potsdam, NY and Michael Dewey of Virginia; three step-children – Sheri, Shane and Scotty Funderburk; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Mildred Harvey Dewey and a brother, David Dewey.

EARL HOMER RIDGE

GOLDEN, MS. – Earl Homer Ridge, 89, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, Ms. He was born in Alabama to Earl and Janie Parson Ridge. He worked at the ASC office in Fulton, Ms. for twenty years and was a school bus driver for Itawamba County Schools for twenty years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He was a member of Pineville Baptist Church where he was the oldest deacon. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Services will be Saturday, February 14, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. John Oliver, Bro. J.C. Blackburn and Bro. John Ridge officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one brother – Charles Ridge (Barbara) Golden, Ms.; one sister-in-law – Betty Pugh, Alexander City, Al.; seven nieces and nephews – David Kennedy (Karen) and Gary Kennedy (Beverly) all of Birmingham, Al., Pattie Levan (Roger) Alexander City, Al., John Ridge (Emily) Chattanooga, Tn., Rita Maxwell (L.D.), James Ridge (Wanda) all of Golden, Ms. and Donna Shurleds (Dudley)Mabin, Ms.; nineteen great-nieces and nephews and seventeen great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gene Ridge, who passed away twenty years to the day, two sisters, Jean Kennedy and Lola Faye Ridge and two brothers-in-law, Charles Kennedy and Kenneth Pugh.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al.

RED BAY, AL – Patsy Gail Kelton, 58, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at her residence.  She was born Franklin County, AL to Eugene and Inner Bohannon.

Services will be Tuesday, February 10, 3 p.m. at Landmark Baptist Church, Dennis, MS with Bro. Hal Holt and Bro. Mark Neaves officiating.  Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, MS.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two children-Jonathan George (Tracy) of Fairview, MS and Wendy Renfrow of Red Bay, AL; four grandchildren-Kacie and Kara George and Cody and Tyler Renfrow; one brother-Randy Bohannon (Rhonda) of Golden; three sisters-Kathy Wilemon of Belmont, Brenda Deaton (Donald) of Golden and Barbara Lindley (Tim) of Red Bay; host of nieces of nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-Tommy Bohannon and husband-Larry George.

RED BAY, AL. – Lora Adelle Grissom Hall, 87, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born in Itawamba County, Ms. to Clarence Grissom and Keva Williams Grissom and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay, Al.

Services will be Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Matthew Fancher, Bro. Bill Harper and Bro. Larry Hill officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter – Judy Fancher (Jerry) Red Bay, Al.; one son – Jimmy Hall (Mary Ann) Cullman, Al.; three grandsons – Michael Fancher (Merideth) West, Ms., Mark Fancher (Sabrina) Richmond, Va. and Matthew Fancher (Leigh Anne) Millport, Al. and five great-grandchildren – Hallie Jean, Wayland Michael, John Mark, Lora Leigh and Allie Claire.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Eules Hall, a daughter, Brenda Hall Harlow, her parents and one sister, Lurlie Cross.

RED BAY, AL – George W. Sartin, 83, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at his residence.  He was born in Alabama to Dewey and Luella Sartin.

Services will be Monday, February 2, 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Steve Lindsay officiating.  Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include six children-George Wayne Sartin, Becky Lindley, Terri Frei (John), and Randy Sartin (Pat) all of Golden and Royce Sartin and Byron Sartin both of Red Bay, AL; host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters-Willie Mikels (Chuck) of Waukegan, Ill. And Lovie Dykes of Red Bay, Al.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife-Leona Sartin and a son-Davie Sartin.

CAMERON TAYLOR

VINA, AL – Cameron Patrick Taylor, 7 weeks, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at his residence.  He was born December 5, 2014 to Andrew and Sara Taylor.

Services will be Monday, February 11 a.m. at Trinity Assembly of God, Red Bay, AL with Bro. David Kelley officiating.  Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his parents; big brother-Parker Taylor; aunts and uncles-Chelsea and Blake Patterson, Bradley and Joan Nichols and Patrick Prien; grandparents-Randy and Pamela Taylor; great grandparents-Junior and Inez Taylor, Muriel Martin and Beverly Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents-Elvis Martin and Mae Rogers and great-great grandmother-Jean Harris.

PAUL SINGLETON

VINA, AL – Paul Singleton, 92, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home in Vina.  He was born in Alabama to Enos and Merdie Humphres Singleton.  He was a farmer for more than fifty years and worked at Blue Bell for twenty years.  He was a member of Hurricane Creek Missionary Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII 56th Signal Battalion and received a Bronze star for his service.

Services will be Tuesday, January 27, 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Humpries, Rev. David Smith and Bro. W.D. Humphries officiating.  Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include six children-Mary Frances Fowler (Jimmy) of Corinth, MS, Nancy Pauline Emerson (Steve) and Judy Faye Miller (James) all of Hamilton, AL, Roxann DeFoor (David) of Moulton, AL, Golda Mae Singleton of Phil Campbell, AL and Steven Lee Singleton of Vina, AL; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years-Reba Roxie Holland Singleton; son-David Paul Singleton; one sister-Verdie Holland; and two brothers-Alfred Singleton and Cecil Singleton.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons-Jimmer and Jonathan Fowler, Joshua and Jeffrey DeFoor, Jimmy and Colby Emerson and David Watts.

CLYDE E. CORBLE

RED BAY, AL. – Clyde E. Corble, 82, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Alabama and was owner and operator of Clyde Corble Furniture Co. for over 25 years and in the furniture business for over 40 years.  He was a member of Russellville Church of God and served both on the Red Bay and Russellville Church of God Council. He formerly served on the Red Bay City Council, Red Bay Hospital Board and was a former member of the Red Bay Lions Club. He had served in the National Guard.

Services will be Saturday, January 17, at 12 noon at Cornerstone Church of God, Red Bay, Al.  with Bro. Greg Corble, Bro. Emmanuel Jackson and Bro. Nick McSpadden officiating.  Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery, Russellville, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years - Mildred Corble, Red Bay, Al.; four children – Judy Moses (Wayne)  and Debra Wood (Alan) all of Red Bay, Al., Missy Darracott (Ray) Russellville, Al. and Greg Corble (Bridgett) Tuscumbia, Al.; eleven grandchildren – Carla Childers (Joey), Chad Moses (Allison), Cayla Hardin (Nash), Jennifer Smith (Matt), Brooke Parker (Tyler), Steven Wood, Katie Darracott, Matt Darracott, Carly Corble, Caden Corble and Cyler Corble; seven great-grandchildren – Britley Hardin, Addie Hardin, Jackson Smith, Madilyn Smith, McKynli Childers, Annslie Moses and Riley Beth Parker and one sister – Peggy McGuire (Ollie) Russellville, Al.

CORRINE HARRIS

RED BAY, AL. – Corrine Bolton Harris, 76, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born in Franklin County, Al. and was a seamstress at Golden Manufacturing for thirty years. She was a member of Calvary Family Worship Center.

There will be no services. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. assisted the family.

Survivors are two children – Jetty Roe and Carla Bolton, both of Red Bay, Al.; four grandchildren – Stacy Trassare (Chris), Darrell Roe II (Brittney), Joshua Roe (Tonya) and Nash Creekmore; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

FREDDY W. WADDLE

GOLDEN, MS. – Freddy W. Waddle, 72, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born in Itawamba County, Ms. and was a carpenter. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Bay Springs Masonic Lodge.

Services will be Thursday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Douglas Kitchens and Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter – Jennifer Deaton (Kevin) Belmont, Ms.; one son – Wayne Waddle (Kamiya) Florence, Al.; three grandchildren – Hanna Deaton and Dylan Deaton, both of Belmont, Ms. and Mackenzie Shinault, Florence, Al; brothers and sisters – Janie Trigg, Salt Lake City, Utah, Reba Flurry (Bill) Fulton, Ms., Frankie Crabb (Tommy) Baldwyn, Ms. and Danny Waddle, Marietta, Ms. and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Waddle, parents, Marion Dean Waddle and Adelle Tesseneer Waddle and brothers and sisters, Charles Waddle, Bob Waddle, Ricky Waddle, Bettye Johnson and Sue Ramey and a great-niece, Cyndal Cleveland.

CHET TURNER

HODGES, AL. – Albree Chester “Chet” Turner, 74, died Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Ohio and worked at Delco Moraine for 32-1/2 years. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, friend and loving and caring person. He loved everyone and especially Atwood, Al.

Memorial services will be on Wednesday, January 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Vina First Baptist Church with Bro. Ray Kirk officiating.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. assisted the family.

Survivors are his wife – Barbara Ann Turner, Hodges, Al.; two daughters – Sanja A. Crowell of Ohio and Shelly R. Turner, Atwood, Al.; three granddaughters – Ashley, Starr and Faith; one grandson – Jesse; two great-grandsons – Madden Scott Worley and Mason Thor Vanhoose; one brother – David Charles Turner of Ohio; one sister – Gayle Lynn Turner, Weller, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albree S. and Betty Turner; a grandson, Jeromey Paul Faulkner and a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Renae’ Skye Turner.

RED BAY, AL – Rev. Ronnie Reese, 73, died Friday, January 2, 2015 at his home. He was a minister for 55 years and was a licensed minister with United Christian Church Ministerial Association.

Services will be Monday, January 5, 2 p.m. at Calvary Family Worship Center with Bro. Curtis Reese officiating.  Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife-Alline Reese of Red Bay; three children-Curtis Reese (Jeanelle) of Dallas, TX, Greg Reese of Richmond, VA and Keith Reese of Red Bay; seven grandchildren-Brandon, Amber, Josh, Andrew, Shala, Whitney and Stephine; five great grandchildren; two sisters-Gloretta Halloway and Doris Tarkington; three brothers-Kenneth Reese, Billy Reese and Larry Reese; host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson-Bryan Reese.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Reese, Josh Reese, Andrew Reese, Andrew Miller and Nicki Hux.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 4, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay and will lie-in-state Monday from 12-2 at Calvary Family Worship Center.
