C.D. ROGERS

RED BAY, AL. – C.D. Rogers, 88, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born January 28, 1925 in Itawamba County, Ms. He was retired as a mechanic serving in the U.S. Navy and Air Force after 20 years. He was also retired from the City of Austin, Tx. He was a member of Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, Ms.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, at Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, Ms. with David Conley and Jeff Martin officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife – Lera Mae Rogers, Red Bay, Al.; one daughter – Beverly Regina Virden (Kenneth) Austin, Tx.; two grandchildren – Shannon Lujan (Mark) and Nathan Virden; five great-grandchildren – Erik Virden, Gabriella Lujan, Makayla Lujan, Robert Lujan and Marc-Anthony Lujan and six brothers and sisters – Connie Leslie, Willie Tom Crum, Dollie Johnson, Betty Hawkins, Jerry Rogers and Berry Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Rogers and Florence Spencer Rogers, his wife, Dorothy Rogers and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Liberty Church of Christ and until service time on Wednesday.

HERMAN GRAY

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Herman Gray, 93, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Iuka Hospital. He was born to Rufus Burton and Artie McNutt Gray on February 4, 1920 on the family farm in the Bethlehem Community near Tishomingo, Ms. He loved that farm and worked it as long as health permitted. He often told his children about how his great-grandpa Mike farmed this same land. He often said some of the happiest days of his life were plowing in the field just him, the mule and God. Happiness to him was owning a good pair of mules, a good hunting dog, a good gun, eating fried fish and ice cream and good fiddle, guitar and banjo music. He loved flea markets and auction sales and was very interested in family histories.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter – Betty McKee (Whit) Iuka, Ms.; one son – James Gray (Lena) Pontotoc, Ms.; four grandchildren – Roger McKee, Paul Gray, Andrea Hays and Sarah McKinney; twelve great-grandchildren – Mindy, James, Jeremy, Dustin, Trent, Jolee, Jarah, Montana, Avani, Grayson, Billy and Lorrie; seven great-great-grandchildren – Emery, Brian, Addison, Layla, Mckenzi, Zada and Bowen; one special family – Gary, Clete, Crystal, Hope, Layla and Trager; three step-children; several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and mother of his children – Pauline Rast Gray; his second wife – Rena Gray; a sister – Pauline Bryant (Reece) and two brothers – Freeman Gray (Nadine) and Grover Gray.

Pallbearers will be Roger McKee, Paul Gray, Larry Hays, Dustin Gray, Trent Gray and Jarah Martin.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 2, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Tuesday.

BOBBY W. EMBREY

GOLDEN, MS. – Bobby W. Embrey, 55, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, Tn. He was born September 8, 1958 in Red Bay, Al. He was a Fabrication Shop Specialist with Fergerson Enterprises for 17-1/2 years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ricky Beam and Bro. Terry Beam officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his mother – June Embrey, Golden, Ms.; three brothers – George C. Embrey (Bobbie L.), Tony Embrey (Carolyn) and Jody Embrey, all of Golden, Ms.; nieces & nephews – Justin Embrey, Tracy Tee Embrey, Brandi Embrey, Lakyn Embrey and Riley Embrey; three aunts – Bobbie Lene Embrey, Gennie Mauree Embrey and Gearldine Beam; one uncle – Vuin Beam.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Embrey.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Embrey, Eugene Embrey, Tommy Embrey, Robert Beam, Gary Beam and Kenneth Lynch. Honorary pallbearer will be Tony Grady.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Wednesday.

BILL SNEED

TISHOMINGO, MS –Charles William “Bill” Sneed, 78, died Thursday, November 21 at Iuka Hospital.  H was born April 3, 1935 in Corinth to Hildred Duncan and Beulah A. Taylor Sneed.  He was a heavy equipment operator.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Haskell Sparks, John Williams and David Conley officiating.  Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two children-Sandra Clarkson (Brad) of Medford, WI and Jeffrey Sneed of Canton, TX; three grandchildren-Derek Sneed (Veronica), Sarah Ross and Jacob Sneed; one great granddaughter-Susan Sneed; three sisters-Margaret Crabb of Sarasota, FL, Johnnie Hill of Marshall, MI and DeEtta Stephens of Belmont; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-Hershel “Son” Sneed and James Ray “Bud” Sneed; and one sister-Juanita Alspaugh.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 24, 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

JOSEPH LAIRD

QUAKERTOWN, PA. – Joseph Christopher Laird, 29, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at his residence. He was born January 8, 1984 in Virginia Beach, Va. He was a truck driver for ten years.

Services will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. David English, John Williams and Kevin Williams officiating. Burial will be in Dennis Memory Gardens, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his father – Tony Laird, Quakertown, Pa.; his mother – Donna Laird, Quakertown, Pa.; one brother – Keith Laird, Quakertown, Pa.; one sister – Melissa Laird, Wheeler, Ms.; one daughter – Kaitlyn Owens of Mississippi; his grandparents – John and Sarah lee, New Site, Ms. and Harold and Jesusa Chambers of Texas and one nephew – Glen Laird, Wheeler, Ms.

Pallbearers will be Morgan Johnson, Brandon Cobb, Drew Bagg, Jason Jackson, Rodney Beasley and Patrick Pounds.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 12-2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms.


DWAYNE COKER

BELMONT, MS. – Dwayne Coker, 78, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at the North Ms. Medical Center. He was retired from Reynolds Aluminum Co. after more than 35 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was currently serving as Commander of the Belmont VFW. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He loved working with wood.

He was a Mason, a dual member of Bay Springs Lodge #167 and Iuka Lodge #94 and was a member in good standing of the Hamasa Shriners. He was serving as Emminent Commander of the Corinth Commandry York Rite and had also served as Head of the Chapter and Council. He was a 32nd degree KCCH in the Valley of Corinth Scottish Rite where he had served in the 32nd degree team and worked in the sound department as well as other things. He was president of the Tishomingo County Scottish Rite Association.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. William McClellan officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 59 years – Virginia Coker, Belmont, Ms.; two children – Kim Coker, Belmont, Ms. and Jason Coker (Natalie) Dennis, Ms.; two grandchildren – Jenny Lynn and Jake Coker; four sisters – Betty Jean Thornton, Rubene Spencer, Billie Ruth Kay and Clara Nell Brown; two brothers – Donald Coker (Arweeda) and Hubert Coker (Carolyn); two brothers-in-law – Gerald Henley (Tonya) and Billy Ray Henley (Lynn) and two sisters-in-law – Julie Mae Coker and Nellie Coker.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Coker, his parents, Homer & Luna Coker, three brothers, L.C., Charlie & Wayne Coker and five brothers-in-law, Vade Thornton, Owen Brown, Roy Strickland, Ellis Spencer and Perry Kay.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and until service time on Wednesday.

LUCILLE SAPPINGTON

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Mary Lucille Sappington, 81, died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, Ms. She was born November 17, 1931 in Michigan City, Ms. and had been an employee of Blue Bell. She was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 16, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Bill Burcham officiating. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are four children – Judy Ivey, Karen Letson (Jimmy), Terry Yarbrough and Gene Ray Sappington, all of Tishomingo, Ms.; four grandchildren – Ann Embrey, Mary Maxwell, Regina Ivey and Cliff Sappington; three great-grandchildren – Kenneth, Elesha and J.C. and two sisters-in-law – Helen Sappington, Decatur, Il. and Lois Tribble, Memphis, Tn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Sappington, her parents, Ivan Adam Tribble and Mary Rosie Elizabeth Woods Tribble; two brothers – Ivan Adam Tribble Jr. and Marvin Eugene Tribble; a step-son, James Sappington and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Sappington.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, November 15, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Saturday.

FLORENE SPARKS

BELMONT, MS. – Gracy Florene Sparks, 86, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born March 24, 1927 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 16, at New Bethel Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Haskell Sparks and Bro. William McClellan officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are seven children – Jimmy Sparks (Rita), Barbara Jarnigan, Paul Sparks, Kelly Sparks (Tina), Charlotte Hester (Jesse), Donnie Sparks (Charlotte) and David Sparks (Lavonda); one sister – Thelma Sparks; one brother – Cleburn Newell (Francis); 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Sparks, a son, Phillip Sparks, two grandsons, Randy Sparks and Timothy Sparks, her father and mother, Olen and Elsie Newell and a brother, Paul Newell.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, November 15, at New Bethel Baptist Church and until service time on Saturday.

RUTH MANN

BELMONT, MS. –Ruth Virginia Nanney Mann, 97, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi.  Mrs. Mann had resided at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville for the last two years.  Before moving to The Carrington, her primary caregiver in Belmont for several years was Mrs. Nell McGee. Mrs. Mann was born in Mantachie, Ms. on June 16, 1916 to the late Dr. N. W. Nanney and the late Mrs. Vivian Ballard Nanney Hughes.

After graduating in 1933 from Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, Ms., she attended and graduated from MUW in Columbus, Ms., then known as MSCW, a school that was dear to her heart. She taught school in Fulton, Tupelo, and then in Belmont, where she shared her love of the English language for 20 years. She met Etha Mann after coming to Belmont to teach and they married in 1941. They were married for 52 years before his death in 1993.

Mrs. Mann was a member of First Baptist Church, Belmont, all her married life and beyond, and she taught Sunday School there for over 60 years. She sang in the church choir until she was no longer physically able to get in the choir loft, was active in WMU, and was a member of the Ladies Care Circle at FBC.

Other joys in her life included her bridge club, a group composed of members from Red Bay and Belmont, that met once a month for many years and the Allegro Motor Home Club, with which she and Etha traveled across the U.S. and beyond for 12 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Jack Maroon, Bro. Ray Burks and Phil Byram officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

She loved her family dearly and is survived by her two daughters - Jenny Reed (Jerry) and Kathy Keys (Tony); her grandchildren - Jay Reed (Melissa), Rusty Reed (Mindy), Davey Keys (Peggy), Anna Keys Durden (Cameron), and Carol Keys Gledhill (Clay); her great-grandchildren - Jacob Reed, Lauren Reed, Peyton Reed, Ruthie Reed, Abbie Durden and Cameron Durden, Jr. and several nieces and a nephew.

Mrs. Mann was preceded in death by her husband, Etha Mann, her parents, an infant brother, and her two sisters, Sybil Stewart and Hallie Armstrong.
Pallbearers will be Jay Reed, Jacob Reed, Rusty Reed, Davey Keys, Cameron Durden, Clay Gledhill, Duane Mann and Bill Stewart.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and she will lie in state 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

MALAYA WOOD

GOLDEN, MS. – Clarion Malaya Wood, 22 months, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Children’s Hospital, Birmingham, Al. She was born January 4, 2012 in Florence, Al.

Services will be at 12 p.m. Friday, November 8, at Cornerstone Church of God, Red Bay, Al. with Mike Haynes, Ben Young, Lane Sargent, Bobby Clark and Haskell Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her parents – Jeff and Ingrid Wood, Golden, Ms.; her brothers and sister – Chloe, Caden and Madden and her grandparents – Oneal and Glyndel Wood, Golden, Ms. and Scotty and Alba Dill, Belmont, Ms.

Pallbearers will be James Evetts, Chris Dill, James McDowell and Daryl Chambers.

CHARLES E. POSEY

BELMONT, MS. – Charles Edward Posey, 83, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Shearer Richardson Memorial Home, Okolona, Ms. He was born July 12, 1930 in Arkansas and was a factory worker for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years – Deck Posey, Belmont, Ms.; two children – Cindy Carson (Martin) Madison, Al. and Tim Posey (Judy) Okolona, Ms.; five grandchildren – Charles Carson, Billy Carson, Jimmy Carson (Abby), Tom Jones (Stacy) and Elizabeth Posey; three great-grandchildren – Cade, Sara Grace and Milly Kate Jones; one sister – Mamie Dunham, Southaven, Ms.; special nephew – Robert Edward Walden, Tishomingo, Ms. and a host of other nieces and nephews.

HELEN PAYNE GARNER

BELMONT, MS. – Helen Payne Garner, 90, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. She was born April 24, 1923 in Belmont, Ms. She was an employee of Blue Bell and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31, at New Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Weems and Bro. James Segars officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two children – Wayne Garner (Jamie) and Phyllis Garner Turner, all of Belmont, Ms.; four grandchildren – Christy Garner Hughes (Rocky), Lana Dexter Murphree (Cliff), Lori Dexter Witt (Brad) and Barry Dexter; eight great-grandchildren; one sister – Lela Credille, Belmont, Ms.; son-in-law – Randy Dexter, Belmont, Ms. and special niece – Earlene Chumbley, Belmont, Ms.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Garner, her parents, Jake Payne and Rosie Lou Pruitt Payne and her brothers and sisters, Aude Payne, Ora Johnson, Cora Moody, Ruby Sparks, Den Payne, Elvie Segars, Eula Brown, Alvin Payne, Vard Payne, Lala Cain, Artie Cook, Brooks Holcomb, Emma Bates and Verner Holcomb.

HOWARD JOHNSON

BELMONT, MS. – Howard Travis Johnson, 87, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born August 5, 1926 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Mason and member of Bay Springs Lodge.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 7, at Belmont City Cemetery with Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sisters-in-law – Ann Martin and Martha Brown; one brother-in-law – C.D. Rogers; nephews – Jeff, Larry and David Martin and nieces – Donna Cooper and Regina Virden and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. Johnson and Fannie Stacy Johnson, his first wife, Maxine Martin Johnson, second wife, Betty Gattis Moore Johnson, one brother, Herman Johnson;  three sisters-in-law, Jean Lois Johnson, Dot Rogers and Eula Mae Stidham and three brothers-in-law, J.R., Billy and Jerry Martin.

WILLA FAYE PEARSON

GOLDEN, MS. – Willa Faye Pearson, 79, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Clay County Medical Center in West Point, Ms. She was born in Itawamba County on May 18, 1934 to Willie and Pearlie Hamm and was a homemaker.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 7, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Ray Burks and Bro. Jack Maroon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons – Randy Pearson, Saltillo and Terrell Pearson (Jeanece) Golden; three sisters-Mildred Petty, Birdie Kent (Herman) and Christine Hamm all of Golden; one brother-Tillman Hamm (Wanda) of Red Bay; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Price Pearson; an infant daughter, Amy Alisha Pearson and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Paden, James Arnold Marbutt, Johnny Burns, Roger Kennedy, Murray Morrow and Howard Morrow.  Honorary pallbearer will be Truman Peden.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday, October 6, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, and until service time on Monday.


CHARLES BYRAM

TISHOMINGO, MS.  - Charles Owen Byram, 88, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Ms. Care Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born September 4, 1925 in Dennis, Ms. He was a photographer with McDonald-Douglas. He was an avid photographer and airbrush artist winning several awards for his restoration work. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II and the U.S. Air Force.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms.  Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 67 years – Delyla Weathers Byram, Tishomingo, Ms.; one brother – Doyle Byram, Southaven, Ms. and nieces and nephews – Barney Byram, Sharon Powers, Marcus Murphy, Larry Coke, Cathy Zeigler, Randy Tribble and Gloria Beucler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Samuel Byram and Mabel Ethel Wetzel Byram.

LILLIE EATON

DENNIS, MS. – Lillie Eaton, 72, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor in Iuka. She was born December 20, 1940 in Mississippi and was a homemaker.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 23, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Mike Deaton and Bro. Roger Wood officiating. Burial will be in Assembly of Christ Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 25 years – James T. Eaton; two daughters – Renee Pafford (Mike) and Renita Harrison (Billy); step-daughter – Debra Ferguson (Larry); step-son – Jamie Eaton; five grandchildren – Jessica Pafford, Jennifer James (Gary), Jonathan Pafford, Joshua Harrison and Caleb Harrison; three step-grandchildren – Josh Brown (Ashley), Courtney Holcomb (Chad) and Coby Eaton; one great-grandchild – Devin James and three step-great-grandchildren – Jayden, Calie and Maverick; two sisters-Dorothy Daniels (Vernon) and Ruth Harris (Jimmy); one brother-Calvin Ozbirn (Patsy); sister-in-law-Irene Ozbirn.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily Clack Ozbirn; her father, Grady Calvin Ozbirn; a brother, Charlie Odell Ozbirn and an infant son, Michael John Credille.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Nadine South Loveless, 86, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Baptist East, Memphis, Tn. She was born May 15, 1927 in Tishomingo County, Ms. She was director at Timber Hills and an active member of Paden Baptist Church.

There will be a private family service on Friday, September 20, with Bro. Dwight South officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, Paden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Michael Loveless (Rondie) Tishomingo, Ms.; two daughters – Sondra Loveless-South, Munford, Tn. and Karen Morley (Lee) West Memphis, Ar.; four grandchildren – Kerry Loveless, Shalonie Tant, Matthew Loveless and Dale Gann and eight great-grandchildren – Jodi, Ben, Kara, Todd, Bryson, Brennan, Taylor and Kaliegh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter Loveless, a son, Tim Loveless and a grandson, Jason Loveless.

GOLDEN, MS. – Price Pearson, 83, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Clay County Medical Center in West Point, Ms. He was born December 15, 1929 in Mississippi. He was a retired carpenter and built houses all over the area.

PADEN, MS. – Claude Travis Clay, Jr., 70, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born April 6, 1943 in Ft. Benning, Ga. He was a machinist for 30 years and was a member of Tishomingo Church of Christ.

BALDWYN, MS –Joe Leonard Pardue, 58, died August 30, 2013 at NMMC.  He was born in Red Bay to Walter Scott and Gladys Pardue.  He was a business owner working in the timber industry.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 1 at 3:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Jerry Mitchell officiating.  Burial will be in the Lindsey Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his daughter-Donisha Pardue of Florence; Fiance-Zenaida Dela Cerna; two sisters-Daphne Keeton (Claude) and Amelia Higginbottom (Charles); nieces and nephews-Camille Stanfield, Carissa Searcy, Ronson Higginbottom and Raymond Scott Pardue.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-Roger Scott Pardue.

DENNIS, MS. – R.C. Grimes, 94, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born November 6, 1918 in Prentiss County, Ms. He had been an employee of American Motors in Kenosha, Wi. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

GOLDEN, MS. – Walter Willis Embrey, 86, went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 12, 2013.  He was born May 29, 1927 in Iuka, Ms. to William and Carrie Maxwell Embrey. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a carpenter, worked at the railroad for 11 years and was a former employee of Tiffin Motor Homes.

BELMONT, MS. – Robert Lee Williams, 95, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Southern Magnolia in Golden. He was born in Alabama to Andrew and Leona Alice Massey Williams.  He worked at Blue Bell for over 30 years and was a farmer.  He and his wife Hazel owned and operated Williams Florist for many years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont MS with John Williams, Kevin Williams and James Gibson officiating.  Burial will be in Joel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons-Wallace Williams (Glenda) and John Williams (Betty) all of Dennis; six grandchildren-Keith Williams, Bret Williams, Cindy Bullock, Alan Williams, Jennifer Guyton and Kevin Williams; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

BELMONT, MS-Audie Gene Sparks, 80, died Saturday, June 22, at NMMC.  He was born in Tishomingo County, MS to Audie Bryan and Lera Mae Johnson Sparks.  He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War.  He was a member and deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church where he also served as Sunday school teacher.  He was a retired teacher.  He was principal at Belmont Elementary, bus driver and PE coach with an avid love of basketball.

Services will be Monday, June 24, 2:00 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Weems and Mike Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Oliver Wood and Florence Sartain Wood, a sister, Wilma Jean Wigginton and a brother, Ralph Wood.

Pallbearers will be Woody Watson, Tony Sparks, Dicky Turvaville, Lowell James, Jerry Morris and Greg Pharr. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Credille.

BOBBY PARDUE

BELMONT, MS – Bobby Keith Pardue, 48, died Saturday, June 15 in Ripley, MS.  He was born November 28, 1964 in Red Bay.  He was a skilled mechanic and he never met a stranger. 

Services will be Wednesday, June 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. David Gould officiating.  Burial will be in Joel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by four children-Christopher Pardue, LeAnn Pardue, Toni Mariea Pardue and Bobby Joe Pardue all of Hamilton, AL; seven grandchildren; his step-mother-Paula Pardue of Cherokee; four brothers-Wade Pardue, Tony Pardue, Johnathan Pardue and Corey Pardue; two sisters-Lori Pruitt and Megan Pardue Clements; special friend - Rejetta Jumper and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-Larry Gene Pardue and his mother-Wanda Lynch Pardue Holder.

Pallbearers will be Wade Pardue, Anthony Pardue, Corey Pardue, Shannon Clements, Chad Pruitt and Maxwell Powell.

MARY LOU EMERSON

BELMONT, MS. – Mary Lou Emerson, 66, died Friday, June 14, 2013 at her nephews residence in Collins, MS. She was born in Belmont and was a homemaker.  She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

Services will be Tuesday, June 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Shawn Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her nephew-Jimmy Emerson (Belinda) of Collins, MS; her aunt-Polly Pounders of Belmont; great nieces and nephews-Amanda, Matthew, Michael and Gaylan.

She was preceded in death by her parents-James Edward and Irene Pounders Emerson; her brother-J.W. Emerson and two infant children.

AUDREY MAE HAMMETT

DENNIS, MS. – Audrey Mae Hammett, 97, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Generations of Red Bay. She was born February 9, 1916 in Alabama and was a factory worker at Blue Bell. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at New Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Brian Weems officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Wreathel Davis and Bob Hammett, both of Dennis, Ms. and Faye Wells, Belmont, Ms.; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hammett, her parents, Walter Partain and Minnie Shedd Partain, one great-grandchild, five brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Roberts, Mark Irvin, Joel Wells, Shane Hammett, Tony Pannell, Trevor Pannell, Jeremy Pannell and Zachary Pannell.

ALVIN WELCH SR.

GOLDEN, MS. – Alvin Nelson Welch, Sr., 73, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Pennsylvania to Herbert and Dora Merrill Welch.  He built homes and was retired from Sun-Air Products.

Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, at his home. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS assisted the family.

He is survived by his wife Anna M. Peluso Welch whom he married on September 2, 1967; his son-Alvin N. Welch, Jr. (Crystal) of Shinglehouse, PA; his daughter-Cindy A. Fisch (Barry) of Golden; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; six sisters-Jean, Hazel, June, Ruth, Wilma and Connie; two brothers-Lamont and Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.


ROGER THORN

BELMONT, MS. – Roger Dale Thorn was born June 28, 1951 to Leonard and Marie Thorn. He departed this earthly home on June 3, 2013. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren, Tucker Daylen and Alyssa Marie. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandson and granddaughter. He was a life-long farmer and insurance crop adjuster for 26 years. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Mark Daily and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 39 years – Debbie Gattis Thorn; son – Ricky Don Thorn; two grandchildren – Tucker and Alyssa; four sisters – Margie Chaffin (Bob), Betty Jo Cole (Harold), Annette Lindsey (HB) and Barbara Barron (Grandel); two brothers – James Thorn (Ann) and Steve Thorn (Deborah); mother-in-law – Johnny Mae Gattis; sister-in-law – Jean Starkey (Richard); brothers-in-law – Tom Gattis, Rick Gattis (Lynn) and Don Gattis and numerous nieces and nephews.

GOLDEN, MS – Rodney Dale Tutor, 61, died Friday, May 31, 2013 at NMMC. He was born in Pontotoc to Arlis and Rozelle Walls Tutor.  He was a mechanic.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Frances Lee Neal Kennedy died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at North Ms. Medical Center. Frances devoted her time to her family. Her later years were spent enjoying her grandchildren and encouraging them to be successful in life. For the past year and a half, Frances and her great-grandson, Baby Ty, had become constant companions, loving and encouraging each other. She was a member of Tishomingo Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Tishomingo City Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. with Mike Deaton officiating.  Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 68 years – Dwight Kennedy, Tishomingo, Ms.; two daughters – Phyllis Whitlock (Paul) Iuka, Ms. and Cheryl Hood (Mark) Blue Springs, Ms.; five grandchildren – Amy Whitlock, Kinsley Nunley (B.J.), Jon-Paul Whitlock (Kendra), Laken Hood and Trevor Hood; one great-grandson – Ty Nunley; two sisters – Joy Strickland and Eddie Jean Murff and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Brook Whitlock, her parents, Judson & Audrey Neal and a brother, Dwight Neal.

BELMONT, MS –Luther Howard “Bone” Wiltshire, 91, died May 22, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, AL.  He was born January 30, 1922 in Carroll County, MS.  He was a brick mason and a veteran of the US Air Force serving during WWII.  He enjoyed spending time at the Tishomingo State Park.

He is survived two daughters-Linda Dawn Wiltshire of Columbus, OH and Sandra Fawn Fields of Aurora, CO; one son-Randy Scott Wiltshire of Jackson Hole, WY; five grandchildren-Lt. William Christopher Howard McBride (Cheryl), Catherine Louise Roswell (Ewan), Cheri Leianne McBride-Moon (Arlo), Kelly Dardis (Ken) and Angie Fields; eight great grandchildren-Gage and Bradley McBride, Liam and Elizabeth Roswell, William McBride and Zachariah Moon; nieces and nephews-Jeannie “Doodle” Potts, Gayle “BeBe” Lewis, Jerry Curtis Streetman, Phyllis Strickland, Sylvia Chamblee, Dixie Griffin, Buddy Wiltshire and Donna McAnally; numerous great nieces and great nephews.

GOLDEN, MS. – Eddie Mae Hutson Brown, 84, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, Ms. She was born March 20, 1929 in Tremont, Ms. She served as town clerk and secretary of Golden Water Association for 20 years. She also served as Mayor of Golden. She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

GOLDEN, MS. – Evelyn Fancher Cashion, 92, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home in Iuka, Ms. She was born October 28, 1920 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and she was a member of Golden Chapel United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at Golden Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Bobby Hankins, Ron Deaton and David Conley officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Lynn Cashion Green (Harry) Hilton Head Island, S.C., Robert Cashion (Gunita) and Richard Cashion, all of Golden, Ms.; seven grandchildren – David Cashion Green (Lori), Mark Judson Green (Jennifer), Bryant Cashion (Dana), Amanda Ledbetter (Hal), Katie Crane (David), Breana Cashion and Bret Cashion and thirteen great-grandchildren – Cashion, Soyar, Preston, Kate, Charlie and Luke Green, Robert and Olivia Cashion, Maggie and Madeline Ledbetter and Ava, Anderson and Adele Crane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Cashion, her parents, Alexander Vinson Fancher and Alma Bostick Fancher and her brothers and sisters , Prebble Harlow, Arvis Clark, Marie Fancher, Dick Fancher, Dale Fancher, Deveral David Fancher, Luke Fancher and Virginia Yarber.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Fancher, Joe Yarber, Dicky Sparks, Chuck Cashion, Charlie Paden and Larry Fancher. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Clark and Eddie Webber.

JULIA RUSSELL

BELMONT, MS. – Julia Maxine Yarber Russell, 85, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at her residence. She was the eleventh child of James Lafayette “Jim” Yarber and Francis “Fannie” Jane Montgomery Yarber.   She was born June 20, 1927 on their farm in Belmont. She married Orville Ray Russell, son of Finous and Lillian Russell on March 16, 1946. Ray went into the U.S. Army later that year and she lived with her parents during that time.

When Ray was discharged from the Army, they moved to Oklahoma shortly thereafter. A few years later, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Ray’s sister and husband lived. They lived there for 19 years and it was there they were blessed with their three children.

Julia and Ray worshipped at West End  Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years. She had a lovely soprano voice that many commented upon.  She helped her husband as he served as a deacon and elder.

The time came that they began to move south – home. Julia and Ray joined his parents farming although he worked in White Bluff, Tn. The bookkeeping became Julia’s job along with gardening that filled three deep freezers.  She doctored horses, fed cattle and delivered calves among other cattle farming chores.

She loved to cook, sew, crochet and participate as a team mother for her sons ball teams. She loved to watch all sports on television.  She is sorely missed by her family and friends already.  Her grandchildren were grand and her great-grandchildren were even greater. She was a member of Maud Church of Christ of Maud, Al.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 67 years – Orville Ray Russell, Belmont, Ms.; three children – Donald Ray Russell (Gail) Tupelo, Ms., Samuel Lee Russell (Diane) Belmont, Ms. and Cynthia Louise Russell Leach (Steve) Dickson, Tn.; grandchildren – Dave Russell (Deanna), Cory Russell (Carrie), Haley Russell, Lee Russell (Chondra),  Melissa Brandon (Dustin), Katilyn Russell, Shawn Russell, Makhia Russell, Daniel, Chelsey and Mary Rachel Leach; great-grandchildren – Dalton and Cole Brandon, Ty Russell, Aubree and Trace Russell and Addi and Maddox Becker; one brother – James L. Yarber Jr. (Shirley) and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Esco, Roscoe, Otho and Floyd “Pete” Yarber and her sisters, Lera Lee, Lorene Yarber, Reba Deaton, Edna Page, Rachel Stout and Willie Deaton McNiece.

HERMAN LINDSEY

DENNIS, MS. – Herman Bostick Lindsey, 98, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center, Corinth, Ms. He was born February 5, 1915 in Dennis, Ms. and had worked as a market manager for several chain grocery stores.  He was a member of Dennis United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force serving in World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ronnie Goodwin and Bro. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters – Barbara Graham and June DeVore (Steve) all of Iuka, Ms.; eight grandchildren – Kathy Sherard, Matthew Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Andrea Richardson, Kimberly Williams, Gail Muse, Wendy Hudson and Andy Weaver and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Lindsey, a son, Alieff Larry Lindsey, his parents, James Poke Lindsey and Lennie Melinda Flurry Lindsey, five sisters and one brother.

GOLDEN, MS. – Samuel C. Dickinson, 85, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. He was born November 11, 1927 in Mississippi and was an employee at Golden Manufacturing for 30 years. He was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church and he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors are his half-brother –W.C. Dickinson, Haleyville, Al., four nephews and three nieces.

GOLDEN, MS. – Peggy Joyce Thorne, 62, died Friday, March 29, 2013 at her residence. She was born December 16, 1950 in Itawamba County, Ms. and was a factory worker for 34 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

She enjoyed crocheting, her flowers and sitting on her porch. Her wit will be missed by all that knew her.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Luther Edward Martin, 74, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at ECM Hospital. He left Tishomingo at an early age to serve in the US Army.  After being honorably discharged, he moved to Flint, MI and began working at Chevrolet Truck and Bus.  He later had a successful trucking business and then retired from General Motors.

GOLDEN, MS. – Gladdis Ivy Wigginton, 90, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates. She was born February 11, 1923 to Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Ivy. She worked at Blue Bell and then taught Headstart. She was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church for 75 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for her family and spending time with her great-grandchildren. She had been married to Dallas Wigginton for 70 years at the time of his death.

DENNIS, MS. – Mary J. Kennedy Eaton, 94, died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Tishomingo Manor. She was a loving mother and the devoted wife of Troy H. Eaton for 72 years, until his passing four years ago. She loved gardening, quilting and cooking but most of all, the time spent with her family. She cherished her family dearly and always loved sitting them down to her fried chicken, chocolate cake and fried pies. Her heart held a special place for little children and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

DENNIS, MS. – Martha Jean Garrett, 81, died Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was born in Dennis, Ms. on September 19, 1931 and was retired from Golden Manufacturing. She was a member of Dennis United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Tim Hankins officiating.  Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two sons – Dale Garrett and wife, Reta, of Muscle Shoals, Al. and Dean Garrett and wife, Pamela, of Tuscumbia, Al.; two sisters – Mildred Culp and Hilda Johnson; two brothers – Paul Flurry and Joe Flurry; three grandchildren – Clint Garrett and wife, Robyn, Jennifer Garrett Moore and husband, Stewart and Jeffrey Garrett and three great-grandchildren – Ella, Lilly and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, R.E. and Ethel Flurry, two brothers, Reece Flurry and Freed Flurry and two sisters, Opal Tidwell and Quaye Byram.

Pallbearers will be Clint Garrett, Jeffrey Garrett, Randy Groover, Stewart Moore, Scott Caldwell and Mitch Parrish.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.


REBA JOY HARRIS

BELMONT, MS – Reba Joy Harris, 88, died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Iuka Hospital. She was born in Dennis, MS on June 11, 1924 and was retired from Blue Bell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Randy Buse and Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her brother-Roy Harris (Patsy) of Belmont; Five nephews-Mike Harris (Melody), Jimmy Kennedy (Gina), Steve George, Roger Castleberry (Charlene) and Randy Castleberry (Amy); Several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents-Russie Quitman and Carrie Samantha Harris; and three sisters-Ann George, Jean Kennedy and Darlene Castleberry.

Pallbearers will be Mike Harris, Colin Harris, Jimmy Kennedy, Beau Kennedy, P.J. Cleveland, Steve George, Roger Castleberry, and Randy Castleberry.

OLLIE MAE WIGGINTON

GOLDEN, MS. – Ollie Mae Wigginton, 89, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at her residence. She was born May 6, 1923 in Mississippi and was a seamstress for 40 years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1,  at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Donnie Wooten officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Diane Wigginton, Golden, Ms., Donnie Wigginton (Judy) Rogersville, Al. and Linda Ivey (Tommy) Belmont, Ms.; three grandchildren – Gary Ivey (Paula), Sandy Ingram (Jason) and Casey Wigginton (Emily); seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Wigginton, her parents, Charlie and Lila Reno Stanphill and a grandson, Thomas Dwayne Ivey.

Pallbearers will be Gary Ivey, Jason Ingram, Casey Wigginton, Howard Wigginton, Orville Wayne Wigginton and Greg Nunley.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, February 28, at Deaton Funeral Home and until service time on Friday.

 

GLENN TICE

MEMPHIS, TN. – Glenn Tice, 71, died Monday, February 25, 2013 at Baptist Hospital East. He was born in Missouri and was retired as a dispatcher from Shelby County Fire Department after 20 years.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Crown of Life Church, Southaven, Ms. and at 12 noon on Thursday, February 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. Burial will be in Dennis Memory Gardens, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Brandon Tice (Joyce) Cordova, Tn.; one granddaughter – Katelyn Tice; one brother – Jack Tice (Annetta) Olive Branch, Ms.; one sister – Diane Hamm (Ron) Nashville, Tn. and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry L. Tice.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, at Crown of Life Church.

KILLEN, AL. – Beatrice  Ewing Northington, 78, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home, Killen, Al. She was born in Itawamba County, Ms. January 8, 1935 and was retired from Blue Bell. She was formerly a resident of Dennis, Ms. She was a member of Dennis United Methodist Church, UMW and Treasurer.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Tim Hankins, Bro. Tony Palmer & Erick Brown officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Garden, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter – Libby Kundert (Richard) Ft. Collins, Co.; one son – Thomas Scott Northington (Tabitha Cole-Fiance’) Killen, Al.; grandchildren – Alison Rhodes, Ava Rhodes, Ashley, Justin, Casey and Tyler Northington, Jackson Cole and Parker Cole; one sister – Nellie Palmer, Fulton, Ms. and one brother, Lewis Ewing, Tallapoosa, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Northington, her father, Charlie Ewing, her mother, Cleo Ewing and four brothers, Lawrence, Buel, Wayne and Boyd Ewing.

JUDGE C. CLEMENT

BELMONT, MS –Judge C. “J.C.” Clement Sr., 95, died February 24, 2013 at ECM Hospital.  He was born September 30, 1917 to Doc Walker and Mary Wigginton Clement.  He was an overhead crane operator for Reynolds Metals.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 26, 2:00 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Roger Wood and Bro. Greg Forbus officiating.  Burial will be in the Ridge Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by four children-Joyce Clement Thompson (Dr. Donald) and Jack Ronald Clement (Dawn) all of Florence; Jo’el Clement Thompson of Birmingham and J.C. Clement Jr. (Patsy) of Belmont; Eight Grandchildren-Angela Loo’ser, Mark Dennis, Annalisa Jager, Todd Thompson, Tammy Bostick, Clay Clement, Mollie Walker McLemore and Carter Clement; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother-Charles Clement of Sheffield.

He was preceded in death by his wife-Alvalene Mayhall Clement; ten brothers and sisters-Illa Prestage, Ida Allen, Edith Goodwin, Inez Goodwin, Annie Frost, LaRue Montgomery, Robert E. Clement, Edward Clement, John Clement and D.W. Clement.

DENNIS, MS. – Hubert Smith Pharr, 86, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at his residence. He was born October 14, 1926 in Mississippi and was a pipeline engineer for 35 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the South Pacific in World War II and was an Expert Rifleman. He was a member of Second Street Church of Christ, Belmont, Ms.Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 22, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton and David Conley officiating. HUBERT GREENE

ROGERSVILLE, AL. – Hubert S Greene, 88, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Florence Nursing and Rehab.  He was born in Paden, MS to O.S. and Vesta Dean Greene. He was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church and a veteran of the US Navy.  He was retired from NASA.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, February 18, at Rogersville United Methodist Church with Rev. Vick Vickers, Rev. Robert Lancaster and Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 12 noon at Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one daughter Marie Butler (Jerry) of Killen; one son-Ed Greene of Hazel Green, AL; four grandchildren-Kyle Butler (Dawn), Rodney Butler (Jennifer), Kevin Greene (Tessa) and Hillary Coats (Mike); five great grandchildren-Blair Holden (Dustin), Cody Butler, Jesse Butler, Annsley Coats and Mary Margaret Coats; two great-great grandchildren-Brody Butler and Avery Holden.

He was preceded in death by his wife Edris Greene; a sister Mildred Farrar and a brother Lyman Greene.

BELMONT, MS. – Genette Payne Barrett, 80, died Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born in Belmont to Den and Gertrude Payne.  She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and was an employee of Blue Bell for 40 years and also Mid-South Drapery.

BUD SEARCY

BELMONT, MS. – Euell Wayne “Bud” Searcy, 86, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2013. He was born December 13, 1926 to Oscar and Geneva Kennedy Searcy. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a farmer and began his banking career at Tishomingo then later transferred to the Belmont Branch. Bud enjoyed his job because he got to see the good people of the community. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was formerly active in song-leading and serving as a deacon at the Belmont congregation. During the more recent years of his life, he worshipped at the Liberty congregation in Dennis. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, listening to fiddling music but mostly spending time with his family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, at Liberty Church of Christ with James Segars, David Conley and Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Gardens, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife – Linda Searcy, Belmont, Ms.; one daughter – Sandy Sartain, Belmont, Ms.; granddaughter – Amee Sartain Scott (Thomas) Belmont, Ms.; great-grandchildren – Shelby and Nathan Scott; step-daughter – Tracy Thrasher Hennessey (Jim) Hattiesburg, Ms.; step-grandchildren – Kaitlyn and Keaton Hennessey; one sister – Nadine Patton, Belmont, Ms.; one brother – L.D. BELMONT, MS. – Dorothy Nadine Oaks Schmidt, 83, died January 1, at her residence. She was born in Tishomingo to Greely and Ora Aldridge Oaks.

Visitation will be Monday, January 7 from 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are five children – Dorothy Perrault of Kingman, AZ, Kay McDaniel (Pete) of Fulton, James Mike Pafford (Renee) of Dennis, Randy Pafford of Cicero, Ill, and Ron Pafford (Carol) of Belmont; 12 grandchildren-Celina McDaniel, Jeff Lindley, William Lindley, Perry Potts (Lynn), Jolene Potts, Neevus Potts, Becky Lynn Klinzing, Jessica Pafford, Jennifer James (Gary), Jonathan Pafford, Ashley Kaplar and Rhonda Fisher; 19 great grandchildren; one sister-Velvateen Elliott of Memphis.

DENNIS, MS – Opaline Pardue, 82, died Friday, January 4 at North MS Medical Center. She was born in Mississippi to Lonzo and Oda Davis Robbins. She was retired from Golden Manufacturing after 30 years and was a member of Assembly of Christ church.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 6, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont MS with Bro. Kevin Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years-Dupree Pardue of Dennis; one son-Shearl Pardue (Regina) of Dennis; one daughter-Nelda Allen (Randy) of Dennis; Grandchildren-Kevin Allen (Justine), Lance Pardue, Stephanie Keeton and her children-Zack, Trent and Cassie Grace, Bridget Holland, Jamie Holland and his children-Austin, Ashley and Alexis; one great grandson-Trevin Allen; two brothers-Dexter Robbins and R.C. Robbins.

GOLDEN, MS. – Charles R. Barrett, 87, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. He was born November 15, 1925 and was retired from the State of Alabama. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Tennessee in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Haskell Sparks officiating.  Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one sister – Flora Pearl Jackson, Fulton, Ms.; one brother and sister-in-law – C.B. and Judy Barrett, Calhoun, Tn. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel M. Barrett, his parents, Veto & Nettie Prestige Barrett and four brothers, O.L. Barrett, Braxton Barrett, Rayburn Barrett and Ernie Barrett.

SALTILLO, MS. – Bobby G. Moody, 81, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Belmont to Leonard and Eula Crabb Moody. He was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church and Evergreen Park Masonic Lodge #1171 in Evergreen Park, Ill.  He was self-employed and was retired from Armour Pharmaceutical Co. He was a veteran of the US Army.  He enjoyed golfing, fishing and reading.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 30, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Greg Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 57 years-Janis Moody of Saltillo; two daughters-Melissa Schellenberger (Alan) and Bobbie Batke (Bill) all of Charleston, Ind.; one brother-W.D. Moody (Jackie); three sisters-Carol Sue Dill, Myra Milam and Cathryn McCafferty (Rev. Edd); Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers-Wynan, Kenneth and Jimmy Moody.

BELMONT, MS. – Lalla Ryan, 81, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at The Meadows, Fulton, Ms. She was born March 2, 1931 to Curtis Mancel Garrett and Annie Zell Wilson Garrett. She was a retired factory worker with many years of devoted service. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, Ms. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Belmont Memory Gardens, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one brother – James Donald Garrett (Kathrine) Kansas City, Mo.; one sister – Lucille Sparks, Belmont, Ms.; one uncle – Jim Wilson, Booneville, Ms.; step-children – Danny Ryan, Ricky Ryan, Timmy Ryan and Sheila Wilson and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Kenneth Garrett, Tom Garrett and Roy C. “Buck” Garrett and two sisters, Lessie Arene and Ruby Robinson.

BELMONT, MS. – Annie Mae Wells Slayton, 94, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Belmont and was retired from Winfield Manufacturing. She was a member of Fairview Holy Church of Christ.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, December 24, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Kevin Rogers and Bro. Scott Bridges officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are five children – Floie Mae Poole, J.W. Slayton (Janice), Gary Slayton (Debra), Ricky Slayton (Debbie) and Phillip Slayton (Charlotte) all of Belmont; Fourteen grandchildren; Twenty-five great grandchildren; Five great-great grandchildren; two brothers-DeWayne Wells (Martha), Nolan Wells (Dorothy); one sister-Hazel Spees; and a sister-in-law-Ina Faye Wells.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Slayton; her parents-Huey and Minnie Wells; Son-Billy Doyle Slayton; Daughter-Jettie Rose Lee Slayton; twins-Bobbie Dell and Joe Nell Slayton; an infant son; two brothers-Bufford Wells and Willie Wells; two sisters-Leona Payne and Lelarae Lawson; son-in-law-Kenneth Poole and a brother-in-law-Jake Spees.

BELMONT, MS. – Ellen Elaine Segars died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at her residence. She was born in Belmont to Lolan Fletcher and Audrey Beatrice Allen Credille. She was the secretary and bookkeeper at Red Bay School for many years and was a member of Old Path Baptist Church.

Survivors are her husband of 56 years-Dr. James Segars; two children-Reggie Segars (Debbie) of Belmont and Donna Hester (Alton) of Vina; Five grandchildren-Russ Hester, Kacey Johnston (Hugh), Barry Segars, Ashley Bostick (Josh) and Mandi Petty (Brandon); Three great grandchildren-Cayson and Talon Johnston and Britton Bostick;  one brother-Stanley Credille (Linda) of Plantersville, MS.

He was a member of  Calvary Baptist Church, an avid song writer and enjoyed playing music and singing. He was a Mason for over 50 years and was a member of Bay Springs Lodge #167.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Daryl  Myer Mitchell, 66, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1946 in Pulaski, Va. And was a truck driver for 48 years. He was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Rienzi, Ms. and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

DORIS MOODY

BELMONT, MS. – Doris Ginn Moody, born September 21, 1943 in Belmont, Ms. went home peacefully to glory on November 26, 2012 while surrounded by family in Mobile, Al. As a Christian, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and trusted friend, Doris made her mark on numerous lives. Hard work was never far from her. The early years were spent in the cotton field and waiting tables. Many hometown people knew her as “Cricket” from her time running up and down the basketball court in Belmont. She spent many hours working in the local factory before starting The County Shopper. She ultimately found her true calling- molding young lives through teaching in the public school system. She stood by her husband through the battle of war and the battle of cancer, raised two daughters to be strong, Christian women, and touched many lives with the right words at the right time. Throughout her life, Doris gave guidance to so many she did not even realize she had affected for the better. Sharing the love of Christ just days before her homecoming, leaves no doubt she is celebrating eternal life in heaven where we will see her beautiful smile again.

Services will be at 12 noon, Friday, November 30, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Reggie Walker officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters – Karen of Mobile, Al. and Cindy of Decatur, Al.; son-in-law, Matt Holmes of Decatur, Al. and five grandchildren – Hannah Beth, Kelly-Grace and David Holmes and Brian and Mitchell Ammos.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Moody, parents, Artis “Shorty” and Gladys Martin Ginn and a grandson, Asher Holmes.

GOLDEN, MS –Oba Wood, 77, died November 21, at his residence.  He was born June 10, 1935 in Itawamba County.  He was a member and deacon of Salem Baptist Church.

BELMONT, MS – Hazel Williams, 93, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at Southern Magnolia in Golden. She was born in Tishomingo County to Charlie Wilson and Aora Epps Armstrong. She was a member Second Street Church of Christ and owned a flower shop for many years.

Survivors are her husband of 77 years-Robert Williams of Belmont; two sons-Wallace Williams (Glenda) and John Williams (Betty) all of Dennis; six grandchildren-Keith Williams, Bret Williams, Cindy Bullock, Alan Williams, Jennifer Guyton and Kevin Williams; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son-James Williams; one brother-Bill Armstrong and her parents.

BELMONT, MS. – Celester Madrue Hughes Yarber, 91, died Friday, November 2, at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. She was born January 7, 1921 to Bro. Joe W. Hughes and Celester Lowery Hughes.

She, along with her late husband, Raymond Yarber, owned and operated Yarbers Department Store in Belmont for over 35 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Belmont where she served in many areas including teaching and pianist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 4, at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Jack Maroon and Bro. Ray Burks officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn McAnally (Jerry) of Belmont and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Yarber in 2001, her parents and an infant sister, Jolene Hughes.

She was born January 20, 1915 in Mingo to James Ernest and Anna Mae Abbott Quillen.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was retired from Blue Bell.  She was a resident of Tishomingo Manor in Iuka for the last 8 years.  She was a former member of the Eastern Star.

GOLDEN, MS. – Alva Mae Jamerson, 79, died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Red Bay Hospital. She was born May 16, 1933 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and had been an employee of Blue Bell. She was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Junior Jamerson, her parents, Joseph Edgar Whitehead and Rosie Anna Ivy Whitehead and her brothers and sisters.

NELLIE R. RHODES

BELMONT, MS. – Nellie Ruth Rhodes, 84, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at North Ms. Medical Center after a short illness. A Tishomingo County native, she was born May 8, 1928 to Lee and Luzina Gray Rhodes.  She was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing. She enjoyed going to church and listening to gospel music.  She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ralph Culp and Bro. Shawn Davis officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one brother – Hollis Rhodes, Russellville, Al.; three sisters-in-law – Charlene Rhodes, Belmont, Ms. Sally Rhodes, Burbank, Il. and Eula Rhodes, Waukegan, Il.; two nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Otha, Clifton,  Bobby Joe and Jimmy Rhodes.

JIMMY LYNCH

DENNIS, MS. - James Marcus “Jimmy” Lynch, 51, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Red Bay Hospital. He was born May 5, 1961. Jimmy, affectionately known as “Big Foot” to everyone who knew him, worked as a mechanic serving the Belmont and Dennis areas for the past 15 years. He was an avid deer hunter, gardener, and NASCAR fan. To Jimmy, there was nothing better than to hear a pack of beagles in hot pursuit of a monster whitetail.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ben Young officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife –Beverly Lynch, Dennis, Ms.; a son –Chris Lynch (Adrain) Belmont, Ms.; three grandchildren-  Gavin & Garrett, 8, and Mariam Lynch, 3; one brother-William Lynch (Melinda) Dennis, Ms.; one sister – Carol Kent (Larry) Golden, Ms.; father & mother-in-law – Duncan and Mary Lee Powers; step-children – Jeremy Conley, Russell Henson and Danielle Henson; step-grandchildren – Marissa Henson and Lilly Eweing and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, James and Martha Lynch and his brother, Donnie Lynch.

CHEROKEE, AL –Douglas Ray Sparks, 48, died October 6, 2012 at Helen Keller Hospital.  He was born July 19, 1964 to Harold G. and Nell Henley Sparks.  He was a Christian.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 8 at 2:00 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church in Belmont with Bro. James Segars and Haskell Sparks officiating.  Burial will be in the New Bethel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his parents-Harold G. and Nell Henley Sparks of Muscle Shoals; and three nieces-Elizabeth Steles of Memphis, Emily Steles of Sheffield, AL and Sarah Grace Steles of Auburn University.
He was preceded in death by his sister-Vickie Sparks Steles.
Pallbearers will be his cousins.

MERLE TRIMM

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Merle A. Trimm, 94, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Tippah County Health Services in Ripley, MS. He was born April 28, 1918 in Tishomingo to Charles Louis and Annie Lancaster Trimm.  He was a member and former Elder of Liberty Church of Christ and later attended Tiplersville Church of Christ.  He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving during WWII, former commander of the American Legion in Tishomingo and served in the National Guard for 19 years.  He assisted with many military funeral services by presenting flags to the family members of deceased veterans.  He was a former Board of Alderman for the Town of Tishomingo and a board member of the Tishomingo County Power Association.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 7, at Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, MS. with Ron Deaton, Garry Martin, Sean McPherson and Kelly McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery . Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters-Lou Ann Greene (Donnie) of Ripley, Sue McPherson of Hendersonville, TN; four grandchildren-Beth Ward (Steve), Sean McPherson (Mandy), Kelly McPherson (Carisa) and Jamie Greene; three great grandchildren-Sadie Grace, Sayer and Seelie McPherson.

He was preceded in death by his wife-Montez Trimm, his parents, a son-in-law-Roman McPherson and his father and mother-in-law-Andrew and Ludia Strickland.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Norris Howell, Randle Miskelly, Jimmy Chitton, Dung Chou, Van Roberts and Benford Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Liberty Church of Christ.

TOMMY EARL HALE

GOLDEN, MS. – Tommy Earl “Bud” Hale, 90, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Tishomingo Manor, Iuka, Ms. He was born January 15, 1922 in Mississippi. He was retired from American Motors/Chrysler after 34 years and he was a member of UAW-72. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. He attended Golden Central Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors are his wife of 47 years – Alyce J. Hale, Golden, Ms.; three children – Christy Hale Nieto (Angel), Tommy Earl Hale II (Lucy) and Donald T. PATRICIA SPARKS

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Patricia A. Clingan Sparks, 60, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at her residence. She was born December 7, 1951 in Tishomingo County, Ms. and she was a factory worker. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

The family will have a private ceremony.

Survivors are her husband of 30 years – Ricky Sparks, Tishomingo, Ms.; two daughters – Stacie Locker (Adam) and Regina Ware (Ricky) all of Tishomingo, Ms.; her mother – Eunice Pardue, Tishomingo, Ms.; one brother – Kenneth “Chubby” Clingan (Ann) Tishomingo, Ms.; one sister – Debbie Clingan Clark (Dave) of Kentucky; five grandchildren – Trish Pounders, Jacob Moore, Stephen Moore, Aiden Sparks and Jayden Sparks; one great-grandson – Tristin Pounders and her loving caregivers of Gentiva Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her father, John D. Clingan, two sons, Stephen and Tim Rosser and one brother, John David Clingan.

DENNIS, MS. – Florene Maxwell Ables, 89, died Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Landmark Nursing Home in Booneville, MS. She was born in Mississippi to G.L. and Cordelia Sartain Maxwell.  She was a minister for 50 years and worked at Blue Bell.  She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors are three daughters-Juanita Ables Free, Cathy Ables Hunter (James) and Alma Ables Lewis (Robert); three sons-Stanley Ables Jr. (Monique), Paul Ables (Judy) and Jerry Ables (Ellaween); seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; one brother-Bobby Maxwell and a host of family and friends.

BELMONT, MS. – Robert C. Shook Jr., 57, died Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East, Memphis, Tn. He was born February 20, 1955 in Memphis, Tn. He was an employee of Cooper Tire and served in the National Guard for 11 years out of Fulton, Ms. He attended Jordan Hill Church of God of Prophecy.

BELMONT, MS. – Mike Chism, 61, died Saturday, August 11, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1950 to B.B. and Johnnie Morgan Chism. He was owner and operator of Chism Wholesale in Belmont and was a member of Liberty Church of Christ.  He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam.

Survivors are husband of 17 years-Ronnie Pruitt of Belmont; her mother -Sandra Rouse of Red Bay; two sisters-Conna Humphres (Eddie) of Red Bay and Lynn Dameron (Derrick) of Knoxville, TN; four nieces and nephews-Brian Humphres, Brandon Humphres, April Humphres and Curtis Dameron and one aunt-Joan Pingree of Salt Lake City, UT.

BELMONT, MS - Dorothy Fikes Hamm died, August 3, 2012.  She was born in Itawamba County, January 28, 1937 to Clarence and Vera Umfress Fikes.  She was a retired bookkeeper.  She was a member of the Belmont First Baptist Church and the Ladies Fellowship Class.  She enjoyed reading and collecting recipes.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 5 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Belmont with Bro. Ray Burks and Bro. Jack Maroon officiating.  Burial will be in the Belmont Memory Gardens.  Deaton Funeral Home Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joe Hamm, one son, Terry Hamm (Liz) of Guntersville, Alabama; two grandsons, Cade and Will Hamm of Guntersville, Alabama; four brothers, Mitchel Fikes of Mantachie, Charles Fikes (Edith) of Tupelo, Harold Fikes of Saltillo, Ben Fikes (Linda) of Fulton and a sister-in-law Margaret Fikes of Fulton.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmy Fikes.

BELMONT, MS. – Dian Horn, 70, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Southern Magnolia Estates, Golden, Ms. She was born November 8, 1941 in Dennis, Ms. and she had been a seamstress working in garment manufacturing. She was a member of Dennis United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three children – Debbie Kendall (Richard) Dennis, Angie Kennedy (Steve) and Todd Crane, all of Belmont; four step-children – Jeffery Horn (Kerri), Grant Horn, Brian Horn (Sharon) and Brandi Barnes (Greg) all of Iuka; one sister – Betty Tidwell (Kelly) Dennis; four grandchildren; fourteen step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

RUBY E. ROBINSON

IUKA, MS. – Ruby E. Robinson, 77, died Monday, July 9, 2012 at her residence. She was a native of Tishomingo County, Ms. and she was a member of Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, Ms.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Ron Deaton and Bro. Roger Wood officiating. Burial will be in Belmont City Cemetery, Belmont, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are a son – Mike Ables (Joyce) Belmont, Ms.; a granddaughter – Candace Martin (Justin) Belmont, Ms.; two great-granddaughters – Kinsley Martin and Kylee Martin; two sisters – Lalla Ryan and Lucille Sparks, both of Belmont, Ms. and two brothers – Roy “Buck” Garrett, San Antonio, Tx. and Don Garrett, Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larres Robinson, her parents, Curtis Mansell Garrett and Annie Wilson Garrett and two brothers, Kenneth Garrett and Coy “Tom” Garrett.

Survivors are her husband of 44 years – Jimmy Lewis, New Site, Ms.; two sons – David Shane Lewis (Ashley) and Danny Joe Lewis (Rhonda Smith), all of New Site, Ms.; two brothers – Richard Aaron Haney and Tommy Lloyd Haney, both of Fairview, Ms. and seven grandchildren – Justin Corey Lewis, Dustin Joe Lewis, JoLiegh Brooke Lewis, Malachi Aaron Brandon, Hunter Shane Lewis, Eli Dawson Lewis and Blaine Stevie Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Armstead Gracie Haney and Altie Dees Haney, one brother, Bobby Earl Haney and one sister, Patricia Fay Haney Pardue.

FRANK BROSIOUS

BELMONT, MS. – Franklin Delano “Frank” Brosious, 79, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at his residence. He was employed by Mann Gas Co. in Belmont, Ms. for 31 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, an avid fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Calvary Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Randy Buse officiating. Burial will be in Dennis Memory Gardens, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years – Marjorie Brosious, Belmont, Ms.; three children – Frankie Brosious and Marilyn Crane (Tommy) all of Belmont, Ms.; and Eddie Brosious, Nashville, Tn.; three grandchildren – Samantha Johnson (Lee) Belmont, Ms., Devin Fancher (Grant) Mooreville, Ms. and Nikki Tacker (John Michael) Thaxton, Ms.; one great-granddaughter – Stella Johnson; one great-grandson – Ridge Tacker and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie W. Brosious and Celestie Fuller Brosious, one brother, Eugene Brosious and three sisters, Rachel Ables, Leah Ables and Hazel Ables.

Pallbearers will be deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Virginia Pauline “Polly” Wood Sartain, 88, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Booneville, Ms. She was a native of Itawamba County, Ms. and she and her husband owned Sartain’s Little Star for 18 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Bill Langley, Bro. Robert Wood, Bro. Randy Buse and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Joel Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

MOLLIE S. THORNE

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Mollie S. Thorne, 43, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Iuka Hospital. She was a native of Mississippi and a seamstress at Golden Manufacturing for 15 years. She was a member of Carters Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Carters Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Tishomingo, Ms. with Bro. J.B. Burns officiating. Burial will be in Carters Branch Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are one son – Kevin Martin, Tishomingo, Ms.; two sisters – May Allen and Janell Poole (Karl) both of Tishomingo, Ms.; her father – Sam Robert “Hoss” Thorne, Tishomingo, Ms.; special friend – Anderson Martin, Tishomingo, Ms.; three uncles – Johnny Southward, Tishomingo, Ms., Jeffery Southward, Port St. Lucius, Fl. and Thomas Thorne, Tishomingo,Ms.;six aunts – Suzie Thorne, Tishomingo, Ms., Ella Farris, Cloverdale, Al., Mammie Mason, Area McDaniel, and Minnie Southward, all of Florence, Al. and Pearline Love, Syracuse, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

MARLON N. JOHNSON

BELMONT, MS. – Marlon N. Johnson, 84, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at his residence. He was a native of Mississippi and was owner and operator of a dump truck for many years.  He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Belmont, Ms.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Brian Weems officiating. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years – Eva Jo Johnson, Belmont, Ms.; daughter – Marla Elrod (Mack) Bella Vista, Ar.; grandson – Matthew Elrod, Bella Vista, Ar. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Victor Johnson and Lucy Ophelia Sparks Johnson and three sisters, Edna McCoy, Ela Tennison and Lavell Flowers.

JAMES ARTHUR MONTGOMERY

BELMONT, MS. – James Arthur Montgomery, 69, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was former owner and operator of Montgomery Ready Mix. He was a heavy equipment operator in building the Tenn-Tom Waterway and owned and operated Montgomery Tractors until becoming disabled. He enjoyed gardening and avidly loved horses and he had horses 62 of the 69 years of his life. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the five grandchildren, but above all, he loved his Lord. He was a member of Bay Springs Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Old Bethel Methodist Church but attended New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a longtime member of the Old Bethel Cemetery Committee.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church,  236 CR 6, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Brian Weems, Bro. Bobby Hankins and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery, Golden, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 48 years – Peggy Wigginton Montgomery, Belmont, Ms.; one son – Mike Montgomery (Tammy) Belmont, Ms.; one daughter – Mitzi Ramsey (Vance) Belmont, Ms.; five grandchildren – Kalee and Abby Montgomery, Austin, Carly and Ty Ramsey; his mother-in-law – Gladys Wigginton, Belmont, Ms.; one special aunt – Eva Lois Johnson, Fulton, Ms. and a very special friend – Donnie Mac Wanner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earnie Montgomery and Eleanor Prestage Montgomery, his father-in-law, Dallas Wigginton and brother-in-law, Bill Wigginton.

Pallbearers will be Larry Montgomery, Joe Barber, Gattis Joe Oswalt, Greg Collier, Robert Cashion and Tim Burton. TISHOMINGO, MS. – Timothy Vaughn Loveless, 60, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at NMMC. He was a member of Paden Baptist Church and in the National Guard.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS. with Bro. Dwight South officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his son-Matt Loveless (Jennifer) of Cherokee, AL; Grandchildren-Benjamin Loveless, Taylor Loveless and Kaeleigh Loveless; his mother-Nadine Loveless of Paden; Sisters and Brothers-Sondra South of Munnford, TN, Michael Loveless (Rhondie) of Tishomingo,  Karen Morley (Lee) of West Memphis, Ark; Host of cousins and friends.

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Joseph William Gist, 79, died Saturday, June 2 at NMMC. He was a member of Paradise United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the US Air Force.  He was retired from Chrysler Motor Company.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS. with Bro. Charles McGill officiating. Burial will be in Tishomingo City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years-Sue Gist of Tishomingo; his nephew-Mike Harden of Tishomingo; brothers-in-law-Kenneth Aldridge (Millie) of Caledonia, MS and Bobby Aldridge (Betty) of Tishomingo, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents-Joseph Leslie Gist and Myrtle Lee Turner Gist; two sisters-Louise Hardin and Pauline Walker; and one brother-Earl Gist.

GOLDEN, MS. – Issac Smith, 66, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in Belmont, Ms. He was a native of Itawamba County, Ms. and was retired from Sunshine Homes as a materials handler.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont,Ms. with Bro. Dean Bowling and Kane Harris officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery, Golden, Ms.   Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are five children – Janet Smith and Mike Smith, both of Zion, Il., James Smith (Cindy) Valley Head, Al., Danny Smith (Cher) Red Bay, Al. and Trista Maxedon and fiance’ John Cauble, Adamsville, Tn.; one sister – Frances Harbin, Red Bay, Al.; two brothers – Teddy Smith, Golden, Ms. and Leon Smith, Guntersville, Al.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was  preceded in death by his parents, William Wesley Smith and Clara Mae Tucker Smith, a sister, Doris Lindley and two brothers, Robert Smith and Paul Smith.

ELMER HODGERS

TISHOMINGO, MS. – Elmer Hodgers, 94, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at his residence. He was born April 1, 1918 in Colbert County, Al. He worked for TVA as a carpenter and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Pastors Elworth & Jessie Mabry and Rev. Daniel Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Carter’s Branch Cemetery, Tishomingo, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are three sons – Jerry Wayne Hodgers (Patricia), Andy Hodgers and Richard Southward (Barbara); four daughters – Lynda Hodgers, Marilyn Barnes, Cynthia Garth and Judy Williams (Timothy); four sisters – Virgie Rogers, Luphelia Alexander, Inez McGaha and Mollie Newsome; fourteen grandchildren – Brenda, Angela, Trinetta, Monika, Jessica, Valerie, Shay, Michael, Craig, Jerry, Brandon, Richard, Steven and Joshua and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Elmer Hodgers, Jr. and Tony Hodgers, his parents, Ernest Hodgers & Katie Barton Hodgers Duke, one brother, Delmer Hodgers and three sisters, Maever Cummings, Addie V. Hodgers and Mattie Finley.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Pearl Marie King

DENNIS, MS. – Pearl Marie King, 85, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Iuka Hospital. A native of Allsboro, Al., she was an artist and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She had been an employee at Lance Garment, Red Bay, Al. and Golden Manufacturing.  Later in years, she enjoyed painting and working in her yard and garden.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, Ms. with Bro. Billy Credille officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, Ms. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are two daughters – Jean LaRue Bower (Jim) Tuckerton, N.J. and Peggy East, Huntsville, Al.; two grandsons – Joe R. East III (Kendall) Harvest, Al. and Christopher East, Huntsville, Al. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Milton and Pearlie Lucinda King, a sister, Hestel Hamm and a brother, J.C. King.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. and until service time on Monday.

DAVID G. ROBINSON, JR.

DYERSBURG, TN. – David G. Robinson, Jr., 44, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Jackson, Tn. He was a cab driver.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, Marietta, Ms. with Bro. Benny Milam officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, Ms. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his mother – Wanda Milam Bozman, Dyersburg, Tn.; his grandmother – Hazel Robinson; aunts – Dretta Caballero (Larry), Mandy Kimble, Brenda Kimble and Janice Kimble and uncles – Benny Milam (Faye), Roger Milam, Mickey Milam, Jesse Robinson and Eddie Kimble.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Robinson, Sr. and his grandparents, Arlo and Rumell Milam.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
